Wildly popular Netflix series “Orange is the New Black” returns this spring and as with any successful series, the second season will include many interesting twists and turns. For one, former “Law and Order” actress Lorraine Toussaint will be joining the cast!
According to Elle, Lorraine will be playing Yvonne “Vee” Parker, a new character who will be introduced during the sophomore season of the series. She is described as a “street-wise drug maven” who ran her own drug operation and went as far as recruiting children to fill in as drug runners. Deadline adds that Vee will not simply be some fly-by-night character and that she has a heavily recurring role in the prison series.
During a discussion about her ability to relate to the characters in the series, Lorraine expressed that life experience has taught her that she’s not much different from the women being portrayed on the show.
“In my 50s, I’m aware of a certain level of never say never,” the seasoned actress told EurWeb. “I would never have said this when I was younger, but there are things worth dying for. And there are probably things worth killing for. And may we, may I, may all of us, never come face-to-face with those kinds of choices. But within my being, I am aware of my capacity for extraordinary good and violence and grace and all of it. For these women, it’s one choice, it’s one desperate choice, one losing control choice. We’re once choice away from these women. So the thing I’m really clear about and why I wanna honor these women is that they’re not the ‘thems’ of this world, they’re the ‘us’ of this world.”
“Orange is the New Black” returns to Netflix June 6th. Will you be watching?
