Comedian Brando Murphy Sues Eddie Murphy For $50 Million In Defamation Suit
Last month we told you that Eddie Murphy threatened to sue up and coming comedian, Brando Murphy, for allegedly getting gigs under the false pretense that he’s Eddie’s son. It appears that the tables have turned though. According to TMZ, Brando has beaten Eddie to the legal punch and is suing the “Tower Heist” actor for a whopping $50 million!
In the lawsuit, Brando, who is suing for defamation, claims that Eddie is determined to sabotage his career. He also responded to claims made by Eddie that he only changed his last name to Murphy so that people would associate him with the 52-year-old comedian.
“The name Murphy is of Irish decent … and not exclusive to Eddie Murphy, a ‘Black Man’ of African Ancestry and a purported African American,” an excerpt from the filing reads.
As for Eddie’s claims that Brando tries to look and act like him, Brando says:
“[I] did not create [myself] and that the way [I] looks is an act of GOD.”
He went on to argue that he has never once tried to pass himself off as Eddie’s son, despite the fact that he appeared in a stage act along with Richard Pryor’s son titled “Sons of Comedy.” Taking things a step further, he also claims that an associate of Eddie made death threats against him. Eddie’s camp isn’t too concerned about the lawsuit though. His legal team says it’s ridiculous.
“This is an absolutely ridiculous lawsuit, and we are confident it will be immediately dismissed by the court,” said Eddie’s attorney, Marty Singer.
At this point, it seems pretty clear that Brando is just mocking Eddie. We’re interested in seeing how this plays out though.
