Look What Tyler Perry’s Working On…For OWN Of Course

At this point it would be safe to say Oprah has found her golden ticket in Tyler Perry and she will be damned if she lets him go. Ever.

Yesterday, Tyler posted the pic above on Twitter, along with this major television announcement:

Apparently, the writer/director/producer/playwright/actor will now be adding talk show host to his long list of titles, thanks to his major success on the Oprah Winfrey Network during the past year. Actually, it wasn’t even a full year ago that we announced Oprah and Tyler’s first television projects on OWN: The Haves and The Have Nots and Love Thy NeighborThe Haves and The Have Nots debuted May 28, 2013 and became OWN’s highest-rated series debut ever, which led to the network doubling the series, and ending season 1 as the most-watched scripted telecast on OWN ever with 2 million viewers. Love Thy Neighbor fell right behind in second place in terms of debut viewership, which is why we weren’t totally surprised when Oprah announced a third series from TP: “Single Mom’s Club,” based on the feature film by the same name hitting theaters in March.

This talk show, though, is an entirely different beast and we’re kinda shocked it’s happening so soon. But when you have a cash cow like Tyler Perry finally making your network profitable three years into its existence, I’m sure you want to milk it for all it’s worth.

What do you think about the Tyler Perry Show concept? Any speculation on what type of show it’ll be?

My thing with Tyler Perry is the biblical references in his programming…”Love Thy Neighbor,” “A Family that Prays,” it’s like enough already. It seems so contrived to me.

If the supposedly great Oprah didn’t have Tyler Perry she’d still be losing in her network. Oprah fails to realize her time has come and gone as reigning queen of television.

I’m happy for these two African Americans coming together and doing some great things! Tyler is the epitome of starting from the bottom and pulling yourself up by your boot strings. Now I don’t support everything Tyler does (e.g. Love Thy Neighbor or Meet the Browns) but he does have some good movies and I really enjoy The Haves and Have Nots. I’ll check out his show and if I like it I’ll watch and if I don’t like it I won’t watch it but one thing I won’t do is hate on someone making a path for themselves!

So he can peddle more black pathology, misery and faux theology? I can’t.

And still, the 25% of Tyler Perry haters have nothing on the 75% of his supporters. This man is constantly making money. Stop tryna bash him and congratulate him.

I love him and love his movies, but I don’t want no talk show.

I have a dozen ideas I could pitch to Oprah; most of us do. Too bad we can’t get those ideas to her.

Hold Up Wait a Minute….Oprah’s ticket was golden long before Tyler Perry boo, she is/was a billionaire while Tyler is still hawking a dress and a wig to maintain his millionaire status. OWN
was already turning around thanks to Iyanla and Next Chapter, adding Tyler just solidified the profit margin. Oprah don’t need Tyler oo, but it’s nice to have him as icing on the Oprah cake but don’t get it twisted boo……..Oprah is/was the most paid _ itch walkin and breathin 4 real !!!

Oprah turned to black programming when the white women she thought would show up for her didn’t and her network wound up in danger. Nobody is stupid. She knows black folks watch a lot of TV and she needed that base to sustain her network. She didn’t have this many black people on her show when it was on …
