After multiple run-ins with the police over the past few years, DeAndre “Soulja Boy” Way has finally found himself in a situation that he can’t get out of. The 23-year-old rapper confirmed on Saturday to Twitter followers that he will be heading to jail this Thursday.
His upcoming prison stint is tied to a January run-in wit the police after he ran a red light in Los Angeles. During the stop, authorities found a loaded gun in his possession. Naturally, he was slapped with a weapons charge as a result. Soulja’s manager told TMZ that the gun did not belong to his client and that police officers were out of line for searching his vehicle without a warrant. But sources say that the officers didn’t actually need a warrant because the gun was out in the open. The source also adds that since DeAndre actually owned the car, he’s responsible for weapons found in it, whether they belong to him or not.
The “Crank That” rapper addressed his recent arrests during an interview with DJ Whoo Kid.
“It’s just being young and being successful,” he said. “I feel like, if I was a regular person, it wouldn’t get promoted in the media. Me and Bieber we were just chilling. We just young and having fun. They pulled over the Bentley, they pulled over the Ferrari. Why are they pulling us over in the first place? We just gone deal with it. All my fans that’s been rocking with me through everything I salute to y’all and appreciate the support.”
It’s still unknown how long his upcoming prison stint will be.
