Apparently these days allowing your kid to miss too many days of school will earn you more than just dirty looks from teachers—just ask Brooklyn Tankard. According to TMZ, the “Thicker Than Water” star was arrested in Murfreesboro, Tennessee after being stopped for a traffic violation.

Once the officer ran Brooklyn’s license, he was notified that she had multiple outstanding warrants—one of which was for “Failure to Cause Child to Attend School.” Court documents reveal that Brooklyn’s 10-year-old daughter, Diamond, had 16 unexcused absences from school and 35 unexcused tardies. As a result of the outstanding warrants, she was arrested, booked and later released. Brooklyn has yet to comment on the arrest.

If you kept up with the show, you know that Brooklyn, who’s now 24, had her daughter when she was just 15 years old.

“Having a daughter at fifteen years old and being out on my own was really a challenge for me,” she explained during an interview with CocoaFab. “It wasn’t easy. I was in high school and working three jobs to make ends meet. I went off to college and I was paying for my own college and it seemed like enough was never enough,” she continued. “It was like I can’t pay for books and lights and all of this. I was really a baby with a baby. One thing I can say is that I always had drive and that drive always made sure that we had food on the table. My love for her made it so I was always able to be there for her and provide for her.”

Hopefully she’ll do better with getting her kid to school from now on.

SMH The Tankards already get on my nerves preaching the wrong message. Now this. Question: Why is it only (our) black pastors that preach prosperity all of the time? “You can have this and that?” “God wants you to have this and that?” Personally, I think we all need to pay attention to fixing ourselves from within first and worry less about my bank account. It will only line their pockets when the ushers bring that bucket around, anyway. They really irk me and all other pastors that preach the same thing. Preach me the word….nothing more….nothing less. Hopefully her daughter knows her studies better than Gucci, Fendi, and Prada.

      So true.

Yep 10 unexcused is an automatic call to Child Protection Services and an Educational Neglect report. For all kids over 5 years of age

Notes arent enough anymore. Now and days, proof is also needed; doctor note, etc. I worked at a school that had an 85% daily attendance rate. We also served free breakfast. Many kids showed up late on a daily basis without eating breakfast. Then at the end of the day, there was typically 2-3 children with parents that were extremely late on a consistant basis. The district I worked for considered parents neglectfully late if they didnt show up at the end of the school day. Of course we didnt report parents for being late at the close of the school day, but my principal didnt play. If you were consistantly late and after one warning she reported parents. I dont excuse ths behavior- be on time concerning your children.

They love showing off all their planes, trains, & automobiles, but couldn’t use one of them to get the kid to school on time?! Smh

Or couldn’t get them to school period, her daughter had 16 unexcuse absences.

If they have all of these planes, trains, etc. then why not use some of that money to hire a personal tutor to home school her child. She wouldn’t have to worry about being tardy or late.

I don’t know her personal situation but if she simply forgot to write a note explaining why her daughter missed school then the school has to report that to the state as unexcused. The child could have a valid reason for being absent, but the mom just didn’t notify the school.
