QOTD: Are Some Preferences Still Taboo?

February 3, 2011  |

When Method Man got on camera saying that he doesn’t like natural hair on women, you all had a lot to say about that. (Personally, I’m just miffed that I am out of the running to feel his blunt-tinged breath on my face as he sweetly whispers “I got mad love to give. You my n*gga.” Damn it.) My friends on Facebook had a lot to say about Meth’s comments too.

A discussion ensued about whether or not it is still taboo for a man to express a preference for long, straight hair. Now, Method Man has every right to express his preference. The way he expressed that preference leaves something to be desired, but the man can like who or what he chooses.

All that said, do you still feel some type of way if a black man honestly (and respectfully) states his preference for the straighter haired sistas? Does such a preference always indicate some deep self-loathing? Do you think it is any better or worse when men say they only date women without hair relaxers or weaves?

Speak on it!
