The Sweetest Thing

January 28th, 2011 - By SisterToldja

Who says black women don’t get married? When we put out the call for black couples to submit their engagement stories, we were afraid we’d have to search high and low to get sisters to participate…but the happy tales literally poured in! We got so many, we just might make this a regular feature. Here’s our first round of adorable couples and their epic engagement tales. Get the Kleenex!

@ESM, I think you're hating!! There were only two with long courtships, and the one for 8 years, they started dating when they were 19 and got married at 27. Considering they were still very young and finishing their education it's hardly long, likewise with the 14 year they were 20 when they met. Hating won't help you find a man!

Very good segment!!! Please keep it up!

I'm not trying to ruin the party, but did you notice some of the lenghth of time in these 'courtships'? 8yrs? 14 yrs? Hmnn At least no mentions of opw babies a and other drama. Lots of folks in their 30s 40s represented, much older than ages of marriage for other groups. I wonder why…

Very nice stories. Good to see some positive in black relationships, instead of some usual negatives.
