90 Pregnant Teens in One School?

At the Frayser High School in Memphis, TN 90 students are either currently pregnant or have had a child this school year. These teen moms account for 20 percent of the school’s female population. Those are shocking numbers, but apparently the teen parent issue stretches beyond the walls of the school.

According to AOL Black Voices–last year, over 2,100 girls between the ages of 10 and 19 gave birth in Shelby County where the school is located.  Yeah, you read that right–10 years old. Shelby County is predominately poor and black.

Researchers and community activists have started a new campaign called “No Baby!” that they hope will help curb the skyrocketing teen pregnancy rate. Too little, too late?

    Melissa, keep defending and deflecting, you sound pathetic. if there were no child support, wic, section 8, and other free handouts for your (and other BWs) mistakes, you all would be forced to choose men based on their actual merits, and not swag and thug appeal.

    the men aren’t just stepping out on their responsbilites. the women are picking these men like the idiots they are. hell, i bet over half of these women are sharing their ‘baby daddies’ with other women. because we all know black women seem to be attracted to men with baby momma drama.

    You men complain about women just want your money. Black women isn't getting any money from black men, at least not through child support. The women who do, on average, gets $100 a month. Explain to me how that's a gold digger or how a women can support her self or child on $100 a month. You men rather not financially take care of the child because you want money in your pocket for your own pleasures. And because black men, on average, don't have much money, a $1 taken away can make him feel broke and powerless. You need to mature and macho-up because your hatred of women and your anger shows that you aren't mad at the child support system, but just controling and abusive and will become aggressive and violent when you can't have your way or when you can't get over. You will die lonely and no woman in her right mind will be with your or marry you.

          You know if there weren't any child support system you wouldn't even financially support those kids or child you fathered. You would have ran and went on your merry way doing what you want while leaving the burden solely on the women. I know a lot of men who is abusive like you. One man has three kids and after not seeing his kids for over year he decided to wire $80. That's laughable. And the woman of his children isn't receiving child support. That is what happens when men aren't FORCE to financially take care of their child. They either don't financially support them or they show up every year and hand over $50. I have a feeling you would have did the same thing.

    1. There is no real reason to believe that.
    2. Eugenics/sterilization must become mandatory. Or u like the world as it is nowadays and u surely believe there will come better times? Too many idiots breed, too many kids are suffering, too much useless sufferance, so the state and the rest of the taxpayers are literally robbed. For most of the time there is no real reason to have a child. It is maximum selfishness in disguise and ud better open ur eyes. Case closed. And if u wanna repeat like a broken record that eugenics and sterilization belong to the Nazi, better do some research or simply observe how Mother Nature works.

    I love this website and therefore I must tell you some of the facts in your account of the story are wrong. This incident involves only Frayser High School NOT Frayser Middle. Shelby County is the county that encompasses Memphis and the poor African American population accounts for a small portion of the entire city. I am from Memphis and this story makes us look like we are dumb just for everyone who reads this article Frayser High School is VERY small that's why the percentages and the number looks so huge,.

    The problem is so deep and complex. It starts with men NOT doing their damn job as fathers. Most of these girls most likely lack proper guidance and validation that only a father can provide, so they seek it from other men. Another issue is that theyre following the desperate behaviors of their own mothers.

    ANd why shed the blame solely toward these girls? We totally give young men passes on accountability and always fail to stigmatize them on their inevitable road to fathering countless children.

    None of this stops until one of two things happen (both highly unlikely)- men learn to take responsibility by being responsible and caring beings. The other is women close their legs. And considering these are the days of woman liberation and sexual freedom, I really doubt this happens. So until we face the truth, our lies will be exposed.

    Exactly! This is a damn shame. I can't say anything bad about it because I'm 20 and I have a son,and it'll make me feel like a hypocrite! But what shocked me the most is the 10 year old child who is pregnant.
    But we REALLY gotta do better!
