After beating some pretty series statutory rape charges, “Love & Hip Hop” star Mendeecees Harris was arrested and indicted on federal drug trafficking charges at the start of 2013. More than a year has passed since then, and it looks like the reality star and father of two may have a decent chance of being released—if he hasn’t been released already, that is.
According to Uptown, In Dec. 2013 Harris’ co-defendent Ronald “Kelz” Walker pled guilty to narcotics conspiracy and money laundering charges. He confessed to arranging for the distribution of at least 40 kilograms of coke and 1 kilogram of heroin through Harris in addition to a few others. He also confessed to laundering millions of dollar through businesses in his name. As a result of his plea agreement, he was sentenced to the minimum of 10 years in prison and five years of supervised release.
Though it appears that Walker’s confession only further implicated Harris in the charges being brought against him, the reality star’s future still remains unclear. As of Nov. 2013, no public docket entries have been made by the County Clerk regarding Harris. In addition to all of that, according to the Bureau of Prsions and Harris’ attorney say that he is not in federal custody. They have not, however, offered any additional information about the “Love & Hip Hop” star’s whereabouts. The most recent activity appearing on Harris’ file was regarding his long-awaited detention hearing; however, there was no activity following that order.
If and when the hearing is held—if it hasn’t been held already—the court will listen to testimonies and determine whether or not there is probable cause that Harris committed the alleged crimes. The judge must then decide whether or not releasing Harris would pose a flight risk and whether or not he’s a danger to the community. Since it has already been confirmed that Harris is no longer in federal custody and no filings have been made recently, Uptown’s Jaia A. Thomas and Patrice Sulton speculate that the case has already been resolved and sealed.
You’d think that Yandy would’ve announced if Mendeecees was released from prison by now. But then again, maybe not. We will continue to keep you posted as this story develops.
