Celebs Attend 2014 BET Honors Taping
The 2014 BET Honors Awards taped Saturday night in our nation’s capital at the Warner Theater. TV personality, Wayne Brady will host this year’s awards which will honor Aretha Franklin, Berry Gordy, Ice Cube and a host of other African-American icons.
Jennifer Hudson and Tamar Braxton were a few of the celebrities who posted pics as they prepped for last night’s festivities. Tributes were performed by Janelle Monae, Smokey Robinson, Karen Clarke-Sheard and Tamar Braxton to name a few. Mariah Carey took the opportunity to debut her new single “Your Mine” which is expected to release this week. A tribute to Berry Gordy included Tamar Braxton’s rendition of Diana Ross’s “Upside Down”.
The only thing better than the music may have been the fashion. Jennifer Hudson took to Instagram to post pictures of her svelte shape and short cut in a tight white number while Tamar Braxton looked regal in a mermaid-style plum gown.
Fresh from his #1 box office hit Ride Along Ice Cube had more than enough reason to celebrate, “I am on cloud nine; this is something that you don’t expect,” he said on the red carpet according to USA Today. “You do what you do, you enjoy what you do, and for people to recognize you on this level is just crazy.”
Ice Cube has done an incredible job transitioning from rap to family entertainment. Besides Will Smith there aren’t many other rappers who can claim to have done the same successfully. Rapper Ludacris, was on hand to present him his award for his contributions to entertainment. Ice Cube is scheduled to release his next album Everything’s Corrupt later this year.
The night promises a number of memorable moments including a sentimental exchange between Motown’s Smokey Robinson and Berry Gordy in which Robinson refers to their 50 year-old friendship as a “bromance”.
The 2014 BET Honors Awards will air Monday, February 24 at 9P/8C.
