With so much buzz surrounding her duets album with Babyface, Toni Braxton has seen a resurgence in her popularity in terms of her actual music. As the Grammys are tonight, People sat down with Toni to talk to her about her own wins 20 years ago as well as how she’s feeling about this year’s awards show.

Toni Braxton on who she’s most excited to see this year:

“I’m not going to the Grammys this year, but I’m excited about my sister Tamar being nominated, and I know she’s going to win. I’m looking forward to seeing what Rihanna‘s going to wear. And I was really hoping that Miley would’ve been nominated. But I just love the Grammys, so it’s exciting for me to see it. I’m more of a spectator because I’m an old b—- now, just so you know.”

Tamar has some stiff competition in the R&B categories so if she wins, there may be a lot of confused faces in that room,

On what she remembers from that night in 1994 when she won her first two Grammys in categories that included Janet Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, and Patti Labelle:

“It was surreal. I felt like I was dreaming. I couldn’t believe that I was actually part of the A-group. They were accepting me. That was exciting.

First, I didn’t stand up when everybody was watching. And then I was like, “Oh my God, it was me.” And I remember feeling very blessed and fortunate. I should’ve celebrated the moment. I always tell young artists, when it’s your moment, celebrate it. Don’t miss it. Party a little bit. Be young. Get in a little trouble. It’s okay. You want to do that in your 20s, not in your 40s. That’s not hot.”

Toni Braxton also added that she’s a big fan of younger artists like Lorde and Justin Bieber, adding that it’s “okay” for Bieber to have his troubles now because he’s young.

Love, Marriage & Divorce, the new duet album from Toni Braxton and Babyface, is scheduled for a February 4th release date.

Do you think Tamar Braxton will take home a Grammy?

Toni is nuts. Miley? Bieber? Seriously??? I like Tamar but I don’t believe her album is Grammy-worthy. But then most of these winners nowadays aren’t Grammy worthy. Eh.

I agree with Kristen. I like Tamar but her album in not grammy-worthy. At all. One good song does not earn you a grammy.

      • Kristen

Yup. I believe she is capable of winning a Grammy and it would be great if she did but she really has to BRING IT!!

  • Just saying!!

This is what I mean when I say the value of these awards such as the Grammys is dwindling. Did I just read that Toni went up against Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Janet Jackson, AND Patti Labelle? ALL of whom are incredibly talented!?!? This is why artists back then had fewer Grammys…they actually had to work for them. Now they’re just given out to the popular crowd. I honestly can’t even imagine anyone out today winning against Whitney, Patti or Aretha!! Smdh

You are so right! Diana Ross has nominations with the Supremes and solo, but never won a Grammy? She was inducted to the Grammy Hall of Fame (w/Supremes), but no Grammy. The criteria has changed – alot!

Yes it’s all about who’s hot and popular! You don’t have to have talent these days! I’ve also noticed all these reality people are on morning shows and late night tv being interviewed about ?????? I haven’t watched one show since he’s been back but I keep seeing clips of Arsenal interviewing all these reality tv stars. SAD!!!!!

I love Tamar but….maybe next year

Well, at least ONE of her sisters is being semi-supportive … the rest are just being resentful, spiteful hags. I’d be ashamed to show that side of my personality on TV. Now I can see why Toni was reluctant to do the reality show . . . it’s just not a good look for everybody (talking to you Towanda, Traci, Trina…)

    • Djay

Trina is very supportive of Tamar…She was the only one that called and on this past week’s episode Tamar asked them to come on the road with her and Trina was the only one who showed up.

      • guest

Trina is also the one who follows along like a mindless two-year-old whenever Towanda needs her and Traci to join in and gang up on Tamar. Trina can be a little two-faced when she wants to be. I’m just saying, it’s not a good look.

…..do you see how Tamar acts??! How in the WORLD are they beinv unsupportive by living their own lives?

      • Kristen

In my opinion, this season of BFV Tamar has really matured. She sat down with Traci and apologized to her for her behavior and told Traci she missed her. Also she calls her sisters and they don’t call her back (specifically Towanda). She cancelled her shows/appearances to attend Towanda’s party yet Towanda didn’t have her ish together and they couldn’t even perform together like originally planned. They didn’t call or text her to congratulate her on her album being #1 (on what chart I don’t remember) and they sit there quiet with no explanation why. Same as to why they haven’t attended any of her shows. I think Tamar really put herself out there this season but Towanda likes to stay angry and the others follow. Towanda has a lot to say to the camera but when she’s around Tamar she never says what the problem is. And when someone doesn’t give an explanation on why they’re like that then all you can guess is that it’s jealousy.
