“Get Yourself Straight!” SWV Comes For Church Folks Who Criticize Them For Singing Gospel And R&B

January 23, 2014  |

We haven’t seen SWV on the mainstream circuit in a minute, but now that Coko, Taj, and Lelee are back front and center they’ve got a lot to say. Last week we posted our interview with the ladies dishing on their new reality show “SWV Reunited” and the possibility of a biopic, but that’s not all they wanted to talk about. Coko also had some words for church folks who have been coming at her about switching between Gospel music and R&B: “I do me.”

Coko wasn’t the only one on edge though. All the girls aired the dirty laundry when they talked about being invited to churches to sing some of their classics like “Weak,” and even said they’ve noticed choir musicians singing songs about Jesus to the beats of their hits. Now you know that’s a mess! Check out part two of our interview in the video up top and see what the ladies had to say. Do you agree with SWV or the church folk?

I think they look great, and it’s about time real R&B made a comeback. Their last album “I missed us” was so underrated but it was Grammy nominated so that’s not to bad. I do have a problem with ignorant people talking about “Oh they come back they’re 40” or etc… um excuse me, but uh if you don’t like the music don’t listen to it, why keep complaining about something you can resolve yourself? Haters always talk about people but always whined up being the biggest fan on the inside, Don’t be mad at SWV because you’re a fan in denial.

A person can sing gospeal and R&B as long as they are living right with The Lord and as long as the R&B is not leading people in a direction that goes against God. But if you ain’t living right for The Lord, you need to get off the mike and go to the prayer closet because it is considered as exploiting The Lord and his people.

I watched there reality show, I used to love them back in the day but these has beens need to know when they are washed up. Regardless of how many new songs they write they will always have to perform their old hits. They are rusty now. And what’s with these 40 year olds acting 20? They seem immature. *Shrugs*
