Lupita Nyong’o For The Win: Picks up SAG Award For Supporting Actress!
Saturday night was the 20th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards and for many African-Americans, it was yet another chance to see whether or not the African-American actors and actresses would win any awards for their work in the seasons most talked about films. When Lupita Nyong’o’s name was announced, there were cheers for her amazing work being recognized as well as a sigh of relief because her work had no longer gone unnoticed.
Looking ah-may-zing in a long turquoise Gucci gown, Lupita Nyong’o took the stage in what can be described as shocking excitement. Nyong’o first thanked her fellow actors, stating that receiving an award from them (the SAG awards are voted by actors in the industry) was an “honor of the highest honor.” She then immediately thanked Solomon Northup for a well-lived life and telling a story that was so hard to tell but “told so well.”
She also thanked her family for “keeping it real” and told a quick story about when she first told her dad that she’d gotten the role. Nyong’o asked her dad if he knew who Brad Pitt was and he said, “No, I don’t know him personally but I am glad you have a job.” You have to love parents, don’t you?
Congratulations to Lupita Nyong’0! Up next: The Academy Awards.
