Celebs Who We Think About Unfollowing On Social Media Almost Daily
With the advent of social media sites like Twitter and Facebook, it’s easier and easier for celebrities to stay connected with their fans 24/7. But while some celebrities are naturally more entertaining than others, the rest of the bunch can just be downright hard to follow either because of their bad grammar, boring content, or ignorant commentary.
Florida rapper Plies dropped out of high school to follow his dreams. He founded his own independent label with his stepbrother but Plies was hesitant to become a rapper and preferred to stay behind the scenes. Releasing several mixtapes and albums on his own Plies may be best known for his guest feature on Ludacris’ “Nasty Girl.” He may also be best known for getting nasty on twitter. Not only are his tweets raunchy, they’re grossly misspelled. His most recent PG-rated tweets include: I Gotta Stop Getting Drunk And Callin A Bihh Late Nite… I Be Out Dere 2 Bad” and “Chase Tha Money An Not Da Hoes…”
Singer Ginuwine wanted to jump on it and ride that “Pony” in 1996 but after enjoying a solo career followed by a long hiatus from music, he joined forces with Tyrese and Tank to form TGT. Ginuwine is seeing a resurgence in his career but it probably has little to do with what he says on twitter. Trying to sound deeper that Deepak Chopra, Ginuwine drops gems of wisdom like “be militant it’s something you can’t buy it comes with attitude and confidence” and “Everybody wants to be somebody in this world we live in but to what degree will you go?” Unfortunately nonsensical tweets tend to follows those gems and then he blames it on Ambien.
It’s important to love yourself but if you judge a star by what is predominantly posted up on their Instagram account, it is obvious that Rihanna may be too in love with herself — her naked self. The “We Found Love” singer routinely posts random selfies of herself whether she is laying on the beaches of her home country Barbados or laying in the bed. Rih-Rih also is quick to read the comments left and then respond to not-so-nice comments with just as much venom in her own reply.
She made us laugh for over seven years on “SNL” and showed she was a bankable movie star with Bridesmaids, but Kristen Wiig didn’t become popular or famous by staying connected with her fans. In fact, she goes out of her way to not have any type of presence of social networking sites. Famous for leaving out the back while on “SNL” to avoid taking photos or signing autographs with waiting fans outside, Wiig would only take pictures with fans –and stars- after they promised not to post it anywhere online. Wiig’s publicist and agent has said, “Kristen is not on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, MySpace or any other social networking website.”
Anyone who gets an ice cream tattoo on his right cheek may not be wrapped too tight but after a series of tweets by Gucci Mane, it’s clear that the Atlanta rapper needs some help. Back in September, he took to the popular social networking site and bashed his fellow peers in a raunchy and profanity laced tirade. Among his targets were Drake, 50 Cent and Lil Wayne but it might have been his tweet about paying Nicki Minaj $60 to have sex with him that really crossed the line. Soon afterwards, Gucci claimed his twitter account was hacked before coming clean and admitting he was indeed the culprit. Apologizing for his tirade, Gucci blamed his lack of clear judgment on lean (prescription-strength cough syrup mixed with Sprite) and said he was seeking help for his addiction.
It seems like she is getting control of her life again but for a while actress Amanda Bynes gave her twitter followers a front row seat to a public breakdown drawn out over months. Bynes used her account to share random selfies in her bare Manhattan apartment but she also found time to get into beefs with pop star Rihanna and John Legend’s wife Chrissy Teigen. The former child star also declared she was done with acting and was ready to begin a career as a rapper and even offered herself to rapper Drake. Fortunately for Bynes, she finally got the help that she needed. Released from a treatment facility right in time for the holidays, Bynes has enrolled in fashion school while sticking close to her parents’ home.
Prince has never been one to willingly share anything personal about himself so when the Purple One allegedly joined twitter earlier last year, it made headlines. Fans quickly flocked to his page and were treated with a sneak preview of his song “Groovy Potential.” But those looking for Prince to reveal anything new about himself would be sorely disappointed. The twitter account is used mainly to promote the female group 3rd Eye Girl along with more music from Prince.
Rapper 50 Cent immediately caused a stir in the music industry with the song “How To Rob,” which targeted numerous big name rappers. After selling millions of records worldwide and trying his hand at everything from movies to boxing promotions, the Queens rapper still knows how to cause a stir. Too bad it’s usually a lame attempt at drawing attention. 50 Cent famously feuded with his bff and boxing champ Floyd “Money” Mayweather on twitter in late 2012. While 50 originally said it was just concocted as a way to seek attention for Mayweather, who was recently released from jail, he later revealed Mayweather actually owed him some money for a business venture and that was the real cause behind the tiff.
More times than not singer Courtney Love has been photographed looking disheveled and sometimes her twitter rantings match her appearance. The Hole rocker has been quick to get into beefs with actress Taylor Momsen, singer Lily Allen, ex-boyfriend Edward Norton, former Hole bandmate Eric Erlandson, designer Dawn Simorangkir and worst of all her then-teenage daughter Frances Bean Cobain. Followers of Love were even treated with a topless photo that she sent out to show off her new tattoos.
Reality television star Tila Tequila has been trying to cling onto her fame after “A Shot of Love with Tila Tequila” was cancelled. Using twitter to stay relevant, the pint-sized star shares a little too much about what’s going on in her life. Tila once had a breakdown for all her followers to watch when she threatened suicide, told of her unplanned pregnancy, subsequent miscarriage and then her plans to adopt a Russian baby. But it was her recent revelation that really captured people’s attention but for all of the wrong reasons. Announcing she was a sympathizer who converted to Nazism, she released an anti-Semitic song where she christened herself “Hitlia.”
Rapper Ace Hood may not have been in the rap game for too long but he does have a legion of fans and has developed quite a social media following. Hopefully they aren’t following any spelling advice from the Florida artist though. Embracing the trend that it’s apparently cool to sound illiterate, Ace Hood routinely forgets letters in words or shortens words on twitter. Some of his more readable tweets include: “Everything aint wat it seems!” and “2 my supporters I wish u all a Very Merry Christmas to u and ur family’s.”
Paris Hilton may be a responsible businesswoman in charge of her own multimillion dollar empire now but before she became a mogul, Hilton, who was famous for her catchphrase “That’s hot,” was known as a not so bright reality star and socialite. Her twitter page reflects her more mature, yet boring life instead of her hard-partying days alongside Nicole Richie, Kim Kardashian and Lindsay Lohan. Hilton routinely retweets interviews and articles about herself or her travel plans when she’s not sharing insightful updates about Eddie Murphy being hilarious in the classic movie Coming to America.
French Montana made a name for himself and earned a following through his street DVD series “Cocaine City,” which showcased underground rappers, before stepping into the spotlight himself. He may have over 1.6 million followers on twitter but they certainly aren’t following the Moroccan-born, Bronx-bred artist for grammar lessons. Once asking his fans to vote for him, the “Pop That” rapper clearly got his homonyms confused when he wrote:
“heres da right link vote for french montana hottest brake threw artist.”
Ginuwine isn’t the only singer out of TGT thas a less than desirable presence on twitter. While the “Pony” singer tries to sound deep and profound, Tyrese does his fair share of trying to motivate his 3.5 million followers. Although his spelling isn’t the worst, he has made his fair share of errors but it’s hard to be moved by tweets like “It’s hard to create new standard with unmotivated average thinkers who are afraid to be bold in their decisions” when he follows that up with tweets that brag about his life and criticize women with pseudo love advice.
You would think 62-year-old Kirstie Alley wouldn’t sound like a pre-pubescent on twitter but surprise (!), sometimes she does. The “Cheers” star is not hesitant to go at other fellow stars on twitter but she doesn’t always act her age while doing so. Alley called television host Joy Behar a “cooz head” and told celebrity blogger Perez Hilton “Dude, your dummer than I thought!” But the claws really came out when Hollywood Reporter suggested there was a link between her weight-loss program and Scientology. She directed her tweet to the editor of HR: “Mr. Friedman is treading on thin LIBELOUS ice with my company. Crackkkk!”
