Unfortunately, the lives of two more young people have been claimed by senseless acts of violence. After opening her  stacks of Christmas presents, 13-year-old Zainee Hailey of Newark, New Jersey carried her family’s holiday trash out  to the curb on Schley Street with her seven-year-old brother in tow, when she was shot down by an unidentified gunman,” The New York Daily News reports.

Police say that Zainee was not the intended target. A visitor of the three-family Schley Street home, 15-year-old Kasson Morman, was also struck and killed when the gunman opened fire.

“I was just sitting here wondering, trying to put it all together,”said Zainee’s devastated grandfather, Michael Peterson. “It’s like a dream.”

“They’re only babies. They didn’t even live to see 20. Oh my god,” one neighbor told CBS New York.

Another 14-year-old victim, whose name has been disclosed, was also shot and remains in critical condition with a bullet lodged in his spine. One neighbor, Junior Clark, told reporters that he actually saw the gunman, who is said to have worn a ski mask and to have taken off running shortly after the killings. Though cops say that they see no visible motive for the senseless shootings, neighbors say that it’s a case of retaliation, adding that the gunman was actually targeting a group of teens suspected of stealing a red Jeep Cherokee. The victims of this crime, however, were not the intended targets.

We send our prayers to the families impacted by this heartbreaking tragedy.

    How tragic

  • lockstress

The tragedy is that she could now never fulfil her destiny. She may have been the one to find a cure for cancer, aids, etc. This is ridiculous.
I say we revoke your citizenship (once they have been found and going forward this is how menaces like these fools should be treated) make you now property of said government to use as they see fit.
You have lost your rights to live amongst CIVILIZED beings in this society and now….you have been voted off the PLANET!.
    I can’t. Her poor mother.

When society sends someone to prison, that is supposedly what we’re doing.

      • lockstress

Doesn’t seem like prison is doing much. I am so disgusted by this story. And the young man that killed his mother for the insurance policy money. Just disgusting.

How can anything be kept confidential if you’ve already put out there the kids name who saw the gunman. Really people? Think before you write or air a name.. I understand someone saw the gunman, but it only takes a certain Characteristics in their body movements; for someone to recognize a person ski mask or not.

WTF?! Why don’t these thugs go to a target range or go sign up for an army and go fight in Afghanistan is they’re that damn trigger happy, so sad 2 innocent kids lost their lives over nothing. This violence needs to stop! Condolences goes out to the families affected.

    • Bahamamama

that’s the big problem…these thugs are only blood thirsty for their own kind..very very sad.

  • queeniam

This is so sad…but why did they name the person who saw the gun man. that was very messy of them. That’s why people do not speak up. the witness name should have never been posted. Po families to loose love ones.. ughh sad so sad

    • njborn

Exactly. Now tha witness gne b lookin over his shoulder constantly. Bet they wont get another witness again bc of it.

    • Nicole

Right, sad part is soon enough we’ll be reading about something happening to Junior Clark. And they wonder why we have fears of telling. It’s a catch 22. Smh.

    • KeepingItReal

They did it hoping the witness gets killed. They want blacks killed off as fast as possible.

  • let’s live

America needs to stop playing with these young punks! Examples need to be made out of them. Violence needs to be taken seriously. If they wanna shoot, and them to Iraq.

    • KeepingItReal

America and the NRA want blacks to kill each other. That’s why they are fighting so hard to put guns into the hands of every young black kid. It’s working, too.

      • FleurtyLaGirl

This has nothing to do with the NRA or America as a whole. This young man decided to use deadly force by using a gun to kill someone. Although, I do not own a gun, I have grown up with one and know how to use one. My father is an avid hunter, he’s black, and a proud member of the NRA. That’s one of the basic rights we have as Americans and it should not be taken away because of someone’s actions. Let’s please remember that its not guns who kill people, its the person wielding it that does.
True, they do want us to kill ourselves, however let’s place blame where it should be! WE need to make the choice to stop allowing someone else to control us! This young man was not taught that guns are dangerous and there are consequences to having one. He’s probably not old enough to have one. He was taught that you use this to kill someone in retaliation or who is a threat.
