“Sooo This Happened:” Dwyane Wade Proposed!

December 22, 2013  |

The day many naysayers said would never come has finally arrived. Yes, Miami Heat basketball player Dwyane Wade has put a ring on it — it being Gabrielle Union’s finger.

Gabby broke the news rather casually on Instagram with the photo above, writing:

Sooooo this happened… #Yessss @dwyanewade

Dwyane followed up with an IG post of his own, saying:

She said YES!!! @gabunion

Gabby and D have had a tumultuous relationship over the past four years, mostly because of paternity disputes with Dwyane Wade’s ex-wife Shiovaughn Funches. We’re on standby for the first post-engagement photos of the 41-year-old actress and her younger boo, but for now we’ll just say a hearty congrats! Are you surprised?

I am not happy about the diamond ring. They are called blood diamonds for a reason. As a black couple they should be more informed about the ramifications of their purchase on black Africans. There is blood on their hands. Also the value of diamonds is artificial. Contrived. He just got scammed and doesn’t even know it. He should have invested his money or better yet, use that money to better the world. What a extravagant waste. Madame Noire, please educate our people about blood diamonds.

Congrats, I don’t care who was with whom. The first marriage is over, life is to short everyone needs to move on and enjoy the days you have I wish them all the best in their future. I can’t wait for the wedding. May God bless them.

If he were white there would be 500 congratulatory comments. How sad.

  • uncontainable_spirit

    Dear D. Wade,
    Get a Prenup.
    You’re welcome

  • Courtney Banks

I thought she didn’t care about marriage, and didn’t think it was a big deal. She knew deep down if she asked he would have been saying yes so fast.. I see you gabby congrats

  • FeelsGood

    • MyBiz

He didn’t cheat on his wife and gabby was divorced 3 years prior to them dating, so what are you referring to? 4 years in and no kids, this is love. You and the 6 other people who liked your comment should praise black love and not doubt it. Smh!

      • karen

Legally, he was still married to her. However, they had ben seaparated for a long time. I know his family, D was raised with values. He’s not from the streets. His wife dogged him. I am very pro marriage; however, I do not consider him a cheater. They (D and ex wife) were going their separate ways. Congrats!

        • VVV

Which family you know, her family who took him in when he was poor and homeless or his family who left their son high and dry. People change the truth to make it fit a narrative that makes D Wade seem like a saint. His ex is crazy, no doubt, but lets not distort facts…He had no values and I hope he got some along the wqay

          • o really

He cared enough to marry her and raise 2 kids under one roof until it got crazy with his ex.

          • karen

I dated a friend of his in H.S. Remained friends with that person who was close with his family. I met his people a few times and didnt know that they were the “adoptive” fam. But I know he had a father (didnt know he wasnt the biological father because it wasnt presented to me that way). This man is hard working and takes care of his family. This is why I was told D got married so young. His fam didnt like hood rattish way if doing things. I met the fam around the time he first started NBA. His ex wife was not a saint from what I wsd told at the time (years b4 the divorce). However, he took care ofher and the boys.

I praise love without scandal. And that whole three years thing is there word against hers.

        • Just saying!!

Well thankfully, your opinion means absolutely squat in this instance. 🙂

          • kiki j

    • Thea D. Parker

He was married before to longtime h.s. ssweetheart. Ended horrendously. I pray this goes better. Keeping Siovaughn Wade lifted up in prayer. I know she is choking on the news right now.

      • Ouch*Dee*Thats*Bottom!

        Choking? S? .And? What? Well?

Praise Jesus…let’s end this plague of men setting for baby mamas…#marriageisthenewblack

    • guest

…or better yet, the plague of women settling for BEING ‘baby mamas.’

    • bubbly85

Oh u people get on my nerves with this pressure that u put on women. How about take the weaves out of your head, the fake eyelashes, the bad attitudes, and also how about protest for your children school curriculum to he changed so black kids can be taught history about Africa! That’s fine if women want to get married but stop acting like someone who is married is better than someone whose not! I have been proposed to over 3 times but I’m spiritual so a marriage doesn’t complete me! Myfriends have been married and now they are divorced and I have a relationship for over 8.years. SO PLEASE LET’S STOP PUTTING EACH OTHER DOWN, BECAUSE MOST OF U GUYS WERE NOT VIRGIN S BEFORE U GOT MARRIED!!!!!!

      • Valerie

Oh puh-leeeease get a grip. Seems to me you do enough of your own putting down.. weaves?..fake eyelashes?…bad attitudes? ..as if your attitude is so lily white peachy keen troulup.
First of all ..what the heck does spiritual have to do with being unmarried? Nothing. And second of all..marriage may not complete a woman ..but it damn sure gives her the stability she rightfully deserves to have from a man she is in a serious committed relationship with ..pension… medical coverage…social security ..a man that views her as marriage worthy and loves her enough to see it through and as far as divorce is concerned…oh well…a marriage license isn’t written on stone..at least they tried. And as far as changing the curriculum in school and have our children taught about Africa… hmmmmm… I say good idea that way they can truly get a good glimpse of the people who came to Africa ,..who we now emulate their bad evil attitudes, at rimes.

  • Trisha_B

I screamed wheni saw this pic on instagram lmao. I’m so happy for them! The ring is nice!!

  • MarriedMomOf2
