You Asked For It: Janelle Monae Rocks A Different Color For Wondaland Christmas Party!

Janelle’s Instagram

You know how you all are always saying you wish Janelle Monae would wear colors other than her standard black and white? Well, she finally posted pictures in something…a little different.

Friday night, Janelle and her team hosted Wondaland’s “T’was The Night Before Christmas” Party and apparently, the attire called for everyone to where their pajamas for the evening. As you can see, everyone donned their finest and Janelle stepped out in a red number.

Well, a red footed onesie, anyway. That’s right, the Electric Lady wore a Domo Kun onesie and looked as fabulous as ever.  It’s so crazy that even in her “down” gear, Janelle Monae always looks like a Cover Girl.  We totally need her skin regimen.

Of course, we shouldn’t expect to see Janelle bust out in a red number during her public performances but we’ve noticed that in her off time, Janelle takes her uniform off and cuts loose.

I’m going to also put this out here because I’ve been thinking about it for weeks: Janelle further solidifies my decision that I need one cute footed onesie in my wardrobe arsenal for the winter. You may laugh but I’ll be sipping hot chocolate in style.

All three of her studio albums are brilliant. I actually prefer her first two to the last one although all of them are great. There are folk who truly appreciate an artist of her caliber for the actual music, esp as lush, layered and highly imaginative as Janelle’s. So I say continue to be true to yourself Janelle, let your artistry and music take first place. You don’t have to be some oversexed hyped up pop image with dumbed down infantile stupid lyrics over crappy studio beats. Sincerely Jane anyone?????

Now we just need to see her wear her hair down! She’s had the same hairdo for 20 years now! Girl wear u hair down!!! She would look so much prettier!

No necessarily down, just a more up to date style would do.

      • S Jo

Well I want to see it down & straight but not too long. Maybe a part on one side or the middle, flat ironed, length maybe 12 to 14 inches long! She would look stunning & she would sell more albums!

Don’t tell her how to wear her hair, that her hair growing on HER head, not yours so don’t worry about it and go worry about more important things like the black on black crime and the poor economy than worrying about how some woman wearing her hair, that’s what’s wrong with us black folks, always putting each other down more than supporting one another!

      • S Jo

She would sell more albums with her hair straight & flat ironed!!!!!

So you’re basically telling her to sell out instead of being true to herself? Are you kidding me? She is doing fine being herself and she her new album is doing great. She does not need to whiten herself up. Shame on you.

Having ur hair pinned up in a 1950’s hairdo for 20 years does not make u Black! & wearing ur hair down does not make u white! Shame on u!
She simply looks better with her hair down! I didn’t say that she had to get a perm! She can have it flat ironed! & even if she did perm it, so what! She needs a new look! Period.
