You Mad? The Sore Losers Who Hated On Oprah Winning In 2013
This has been a very good year for Oprah Winfrey. Her OWN Network is seeing some of its highest ratings thanks to some hit Tyler Perry shows, and she’s literally getting Oscar buzz, New York Times shine and the cover of Hollywood Reporter for her work in Lee Daniels’ The Butler. But with some of her biggest non-talk show success comes some of her biggest detractors, and many of them have come out of the woodworks as The Queen of Talk has become more talkative and outspoken than ever about her experiences and the reality of racism. Check out some of the D-listers, sore losers and professional haters who threw shade at Oprah Winfrey this year.
Ever since Stacey Dash left VH1’s Single Ladies, she’s been doing the absolute most to keep her name in the news, including going the Don Lemon route and having very public opinions that aren’t necessarily in the best interests of black folks (but maybe that’s just the right winger in her). She tried to come for Oprah because of Lady O’s comments about the Trayvon Martin case, as she compared Trayvon to Emmett Till and said that it’s a problem that President Obama is on Fox News every day. Dash quoted Malcolm X and had this to say:
“If you aren’t careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.’ ~ Malcolm X.”
“Shame on you, Oprah.”
Of course, this got the praise of GOP lovers while the rest of the world continued to gag at her antics.
Rae Dawn Chong
Who could forget this foolery? There’s no way you can try to explain or make sense of saying that the Queen of Talk would be a “field ni**er” if we were back in the old days:
“You kind of gotta look at and her go, ‘Hello, hats off. You have done an amazing thing. You have actually shifted the DNA of the universe.’In terms of thinking and power structure, if you look at the way [Oprah] looks, she looks like 60 years ago she would have been a house keeper luckily. She would have not been a house n**ger she would have been a field n**ger. I have to stop and say this woman is a miracle. She changed our thinking off a woman of a certain size and a certain.”
Oprah knew better than to even give this the time of day, but Chong tried to backtrack, claiming she was actually paying Lady O a “compliment.” Riiiiiight…
While Hasslebeck kept her criticisms moreso to President Obama during her days on The View, now a Fox & Friends host, Hasslebeck is aiming at new targets. After Oprah said that President Obama’s race played a part in some of the disrespect and harsh criticism he gets, Hasslebeck called Oprah out for “undermining” racism. Allow her to explain:
“And certainly throwing around racist accusations, calling someone a racist certainly for disagreeing when they are indeed not, would undermine racism when it does occur.
…this is someone as powerful as Oprah instilling fear in those that may come to critique policy under a cloak of racism when it may not be there So again, it undermines racism when it does occur.”
Of course, disagreeing with the president doesn’t make you a racist (just ask Cornel West and Tavis Smiley), but it’s mad obvious that the folks walking around saying working with the POTUS is like working with a “tar baby” might fit under that description.
Roseanne has been riding the struggle bus for the last few years, including when she tried to run for president with the Green Party in 2012. But she really made a big boo boo when she ranted about Lady O on Twitter:
“she is NOT a good person to work for. seriously narcissistic, absent. She hangs out w retards all day who kiss her fat ass!
Look at the pot calling the kettle black…
Speaking of the pot calling the kettle black, Rush Limbaugh tried to use Winfrey’s weight as the reason she was treated poorly while trying to check out a pricey Tom Ford bag at a shop in Switzerland:
“If I were Oprah, I’d be so happy I could go someplace and not be recognized, we’ve all been insulted by retail people. Maybe it’s because The Oprah’s fat! Maybe the judgment that The Oprah couldn’t afford a $38,000 bag had nothing to do with her race…Don’t most people think that the fat and the obese are poor and stupid? Where do you see fat people? You see them at places where things don’t cost very much.”
I don’t know if Limbaugh ever wants people to take his comments seriously or if he just talks out of the side of his neck to get attention and help keeps the lights on for his radio show. Either way, everything he says reminds me of Charlie Brown’s teacher: “Womp, wu womp womp womp.”
Wacka Flocka Flame
What he did was caught on camera years ago, but it was spread to the masses this year. Wacka Flocka Flame and friends were taped a while back discussing famous women they would sleep with, and Oprah’s name came up. They discussed Oprah’s wealth, and if they would sleep with her if the Queen of Talk ever lowered her standards to inexplicable levels. While his friends said that they would, the rapper said, “I don’t wanna f*** that ugly b****”
Well, you’re not too fabulous yourself, sir.
Interesting enough, it was actually his mom, Deb Atney, who pushed him to apologize for his disgusting remarks. He reached out to TMZ and said, “I feel obligated to take responsibility for my actions and publicly apologize to Oprah.”
“My remarks about you were both extremely unnecessary and disrespectful. This regretful situation made me look at women and how I address them in a more responsible way.”
Swiss Sales Clerk
If there’s one thing I can’t stand as a former retail employee, it’s folks who give bad service because they think folks can’t afford anything nice. That’s what Oprah claims happened to her when she stopped in a shop in Switzerland while in town for Tina Turner’s wedding, asked to see a Tom Ford bag the price of someone’s tuition, and the sales associate wouldn’t show it to her. If that wasn’t bad enough, the woman, who claimed she wanted to stay anonymous, spoke out to the Daily Mail and claimed Oprah was lying on her. She went as far to play the innocent victim while Oprah was the big, intimidating beast sullying her name (which Oprah never knew or shared) in the media:
“She is so powerful, and I am just a shop girl. I didn’t hurt anyone. I don’t know why someone as great as her must cannibalize me on TV.”
Anybody with the last name Zimmerman is going to automatically catch a side eye, but during George Zimmerman’s trial for the murder of Trayvon Martin, his brother Robert called Oprah “ignorant” after she compared the death of the teen to the murder of Emmett Till.
“.I used to respect @Oprah but I think she’s part of the problem.. I don’t think she’s a fool, but certainly ignorant”
.@Oprah- The way I see it, UR using my bro’s case & other “race” claims to shamelessly promote your flop movie
Flop? You mean The Butler, which made more than $155 million worldwide and has Oscar written all over it? The Zimmermans, consistently failing at life.
We all know that social media breeds some of the biggest haters, but none of them ever think they’ll get a response from the person they’re shading. That’s right, this is the only hater that Oprah responded to this year, and she decided to after the individual said Winfrey was looking more on the elderly side these days…
Things could have gone a lot worse, like the time Oprah treated the life of out of a Twitter follower who claimed she doesn’t do enough for black people. Or, you know, she could have used her power to keep Miss Mia_#1Leo from getting a job and crushing her like an ant. But I digress…
