‘All Relationships Have Their Share Of Obstacles:’ Malcolm-Jamal Warner Talks Regina King Split

December 9, 2013  |

If there’s one couple that we were really sad to see throw in the towel, it was Malcolm-Jamal Warner and Regina King. I mean, they seemed to perfect together. It’s difficult to imagine what could’ve possibly gone wrong. But as most of us who have been long-term relationships before know, getting together is simple; staying together is where things get a little tricky. Breakup rumors surrounding the couple began swirling back in March, but King quickly took to Twitter in what some perceived as an attempt at putting those whispers to bed.

“Hey everybody PLEASE don’t believe everything you read. Me & @MalcolmJamalWar are good. Life Happens. Forward motion. Godspeed,” the “Southland” actress tweeted.

Though damage control tweet seemed to keep some at bay, folks like us were busy trying to figure out whether or not her tweet meant that they’re good and still together or good it broken up. Unfortunately, it turns out that she meant the latter. Their split was later confirmed. Macolm-Jamal recently opened up to Sister 2 Sister about the split.

“I mean, you try not to date in the spotlight. I think what Regina and I—you know, we had been together for several years before people realized we were together. So unfortunately our breakup got more coverage than our being together, and that kind of sucked ‘cause we spent so much time trying to keep it out of the public eye, and then the breakup was so much in the public eye. So all relationships have their share of obstacles, and you just try not to have yours plastered.”

He adds that he still maintains a relationship with Regina’s son.

“We’re all very cool.”

Though we’re sad they they’re no longer together, it’s great to see that they remain amicable. And who knows, maybe somewhere down the line they will be able to iron out their differences and get back together. Speaking of Regina King, according to Deadline she’s set to star in a new FX series titled, “The Strain.”
