Rapper-turned-actor Ice Cube is headed back to the big screen early next year in the highly anticipated buddy-cop comedy Ride Along.

According to the film’s director, Tim Story, Ride Along is a comedic take on the gritty crime dramaTraining Day.

During a visit on the set of Ride Along in Atlanta last December, Ice Cube opened up about his new role, and talked about his on-screen chemistry with Kevin Hart.

“Working with somebody like Kevin Hart is rejuvenating…” Ice Cube said. “I think Kevin’s brand of comedy is broader. He reminds me of a young Eddie Murphy….when Eddie Murphy was sharp as a tack, witty and on time. And he can pull it all off.. he can pull off the physical, he can pull off the intellectual, he can pull off the subtle. It’s just cool to work with somebody so good.”

Throughout his film career spanning more than 20 years, Ice Cube has collaborated with some of Hollywood’s funniest comedians, including Mike Epps, Katt Williams, John Witherspoon and Chris Tucker.

The 44-year-old actor says that the key to his success in the buddy-comedy film genre has been his ability “to make sure the comedy is funny, and not just comedy.”

“We make sure we have a great script so that we don’t force feed anything,” he says. “I think it helps people relax and laugh at it.”

I think Cube is selling himself short. He is a funny dude! I laughed at Craig more than I did at day day and smokey.

Putting Kevin Hart in the same breath as eddie Murphy is disrspectful… how many short jokes do we need really?

Depends if you mean the Raw, SNL Eddie or Dr. Dolittle Eddie. Kevin has a shot at the Dr Dolittle Eddie.

HE dble hockey sticks NO! I like Kevin Hart be he has a loooonnnnnggg way to go before he reaches Eddie status. What’s funny to me is that I’ve noticed the changes in his comedy level already since becoming more famous. Watch all of his stand up specials in a row and you see how less funny he is in the current film, Let Me Explain. It seems he’s doing “too much” to get as much has he can and I’m not mad at that, but it can wear out your desire to be seen in the future. Eddie hasn’t done a stand up since Raw in 1987, right? But let him announce a stand up tour today and he will SHUT it down! It would be sold out in minutes.

I hope not … because Eddie’s talent is extremely limited. I am amazed at how virtually every one of his comedic peers – Whoopi, Robin Williams, Billy Crystal, etc. – have all built up diverse filmographies while Eddie just makes one dumb movie after the other. I don’t understand him at all … but he just has no range. I hope Kevin and branch out in a way Eddie never did.
