black friday shopping

Though I’m not a fan of shopping on Black Friday, I know it’s a time honored tradition in some homes. And while this is supposed to be a time of sport, something you can enjoy with the fam, all of the recent racial profiling incidents as of late might make you want to reconsider your shopping strategy. In a comedic video for Jon Stewart’s “The Daily Show,” Jessica Williams explains the dangers of shopping while black, even on Black Friday, and gives us some pointers to avoid any type of drama which may result in law enforcement being called. You can see them all in the video but I pulled out a few highlights.

- Have a white person shop for you

– Announce every move you plan on making

– Bring the security guards cookies and ask them to let you shop in peace.

– Have a white friend vouch for your character

Check out the video below and laugh and shake your head at the realness of it all.

Ha Ha right?! But on a serious tip, have you every been profiled while shopping?

I have one that wasn’t mentioned…my black self and my black wallet with my green cash and blue credit card are staying home. I’ll sit back and laugh while retailers whine about how not enough people were spending over the holiday,
