Kandi Burruss Reveals Xscape Received The Same Bad Deal As TLC!

November 17, 2013  |

There’s no defending when artists are cheated because they didn’t know better and signed a terrible deal but according to Kandi Burruss, that’s just the way things were in those days (and more often than not, the way it is today).

In speaking with HipHollywood, Kandi discussed whether or not she and the other members of Xscape received a bad deal when they first entered the music industry. Kandi responded with, “Our deal sucked. I think we had the same amount of points. For a lot of people, that was the same.

She continued by saying, “In my mind, no one is gonna just spend all this money and you haven’t proven yourself.”

Many people would actually agree with Kandi’s points. While we don’t know exactly what happened between Pebbles and TLC (though they’ve been telling the same story for 20 years and Pebbles is just start to deny that she did anything wrong), Kandi believes that the biggest problem was renegotiation:

“…It was all about being able to renegotiate on your second time around or third time around. I think that’s probably where the problem was with them because their situation, they weren’t able to renegotiate.”

Kandi Burruss says that in the end it worked out for them because TLC is making millions now and it all started from their issues with Pebbles.

That’s definitely an interesting point of view.  Kandi is really well-versed on the inner workings of the music industry so even though this particular situation with TLC has nothing to do with her, she might have a more balanced perception.

I’m sure we’ll hear more artists speaking out if the situation between TLC and Pebbles isn’t rectified soon.

Well the TLC has opened the floodgates for ALL artists to come out & announce they they had sh1tty contracts… this is just the beginning…

Kandi may be right about this, but I totally lost respect for her in having “business sense” when she didn’t write up a contract for Kim Zolciak/Tardy for the Party. You might have gotten a bad deal back in the day re Xscape but Tardy for the Party is recent. AND Kandy LOST the lawsuit.

Kandi can’t talk, she’s the Chili of the group, she slept with JD while Xscape was still a group.

I don’t understand the statement, ‘Pebbles just starting to deny’. Did you not see VH1’s Behind the Music? Because Pebbles clearly denied wrongdoing back in 1997. Furthermore, as Kandi pointed out, TLC could have renegotiated with the second album, when Pebbles was out of the loop, but they didn’t. Yet, somehow Pebbles is responsible for everything? yeah right!

Right and this is exactly what Pebbles said in her Huff Post interview with regard to negotiations. I’m not sure why people keep acting like she JUST started denying it … They must be young or something. I watched the BTM when it aired and even before then she was denying it and has been consistent in saying she did nothing wrong. Folks just wanna be mad. SMH. Gotta love the era of social media …

quite frankly, I think we’ll never really know what actually went down. Pebbles said this, TLC said that. now it’s only a war of words.

Glad to see I am not the only one on here with sense. She has always denied wrongdoing, so folks need to stop slandering her or frankly doing a better job of researching “facts” before putting them in print. Just because you are Team TLC doesn’t mean that Pebbles was at fault….two sides to everything.

I have no doubt TLC got screwed, but they weren’t the only ones. The girl who got kicked out for wantiing her mama to look at the contract should’ve told them something was wrong.

    • Palesa Floret

Maybe she did. The fact that she got kicked out for that should have thrown up red flags

I think Kandi should stay out of this. Because it is getting very messy. Kandi, just worry about your mom and Todd. When is your wedding going to be. Why is your mom so judgmental!
