The Best Man Holiday

We’re pretty sure Harper Stewart wasn’t the only one surprised to see Jordan with a white boy in the upcoming film, “The Best Man Holiday.” In previews for “The Best Man” sequel we find out Nia Long’s character Jordan has been “playing in the snow,” as Quentin put it in the film, and when we attended the press junket for the movie in LA, we chatted with director Malcolm D. Lee about why chose to take her story line in that direction.

Speaking on Jordan’s go-getter attitude toward her career and the fact that love has always taken a backseat in her life, he said:

“African American women who are extremely successful can’t always find black male counterparts on that level so it’s a little bit of a reflection of reality that black women are starting to date outside their race — and why not?”

Lee also spoke on his ability to incorporate spirituality into both “Best Man” movies without beating people over the head with a message and what he thinks about the current climate of black films. Check out what he had to say about that and more in the video below.

y is this even an issue? a black woman dating outside of her race…shouldn’t be only because she can’t find an eligible black man…it’s because she found an eligible man who happened to be another race…not a big deal to me.

  • blogdiz

The Cast of this film is a sad reflection of the state of relations between BW & BM in USA Hmm Do you realize that of the 4 black men in this movie only 1 is married to a BW? and i don’t think ANY of those beautiful Black women are married .NIA has a man for ages not sure why no ring BUT Dont tell me that Nia , Sanaa or Monica fit the oft trotted out Stereotypes i.e ghetto-loud unemployed gold digging baby mama etc …Black Foks something going on with us gotta work it out

    • rainbow

      My thoughts exactly

  • Tru Words&Wisdom

Why is it acceptable for black men to marry outside of their race especially when they achieve some sort of success but when a black woman is with any other man it is taboo or treacherous. Most of these black men whether in entertainment or academically/corporate culture marry white women as a form of validation.
Logistically, the numbers do not add up if more and more black men are with White, Hispanic or Asian women then why are black women limiting themselves?
I understand what he is trying to say, the number of black women and men in corporate America is very slim, you might be one of or the only black person in the circles you are acquainted to so chances are you will date within that sub – group. It is not necessarily about race but about academics, finances, opportunity and other commonalities. It is not bashing black men it is reality. If Jerome Blackwell is dating Becky are you going to wait for him to see you as the divine black Goddess you are OR will you date Brad and see if he makes you happy? Why should black women always explain why they are dating who they choose to date? Do people QUESTION Wiz Khalifa, Ice T, Tiger, Cuba etc as much?????????
They say Black women are the least likely of all races to get married!! mmmh wonder why?? I stopped waiting for Tyrone and Shaka and I am happy with Tanaka Nakamura. Just saying………

    • Straight Up

It’s not acceptable for either of them to do it, and my philosophy has always been to boycott them. I do not support any creative works, ideas, businesses, etc. done by blacks (male or female) that either date outside their races or have spouses outside their races.

      • Tru Words&Wisdom

I don’t mean to be flippant but what you are saying is you don’t watch sports, listen to music, read books or watch films with black actors and actresses because of their choices in romantic partners????
I love and respect Alfre Woodard, I wouldn’t stop watching her films because of her husband… I just don’t see what that would solve.

        • Straight Up

That’s the problem…..Black people never “see”. This is mainly the reason why we have always and will continue to be on the bottom rung of the social and economic ladder. We’re the only people who accept this open door policy to our detriment, starting with the Blacks in Africa….and you see where it got them (us).

And to answer your question, that is exactly what I’m saying. No I do not support athletes, musicians, actors/actresses that indulge in interracial mating. I admit…I’m slightly easier on the females, but for black males, absolutely NOT. case closed. *next case on the docket please*

          • Tru Words&Wisdom

            You are illogical…..

            Yes, case closed…

            May the Lord bless you.

  • scandalous7

Maybe for some, but this is not really the majority case.

  • Hannibal

DAMN, EVERYONE IS AGAINST BLACK MEN THESE DAYS, BLACK WOMEN, WHITE MEN, AND GAY BLACK DUDES

    • guest

      I looooove Black Men!!!!!!!

      • Hannibal

THATS GREAT TO HEAR, ESPECIALLY THESE DAYS WHEN EVERYONE IS TEARING US BLACK MEN DOWN!

      • Rissie75

        Me too!!!!

    • OverTyme

Its been like that for a while now, and black men against black men as well. We are on everyone crosshairs.

  • Soulsis

“African American women who are extremely successful can’t always find black male counterparts on that level….”
I one hundred percent disagree!!!! . All of these successful black women in the movie are single and three out of four of these equally successful Black men are not married to black women.

  • Bren

I see what he is doing however I don’t like his explanation for it, as though black women are dating “outside” of their “race” because they can’t find an IBM. For some women, that may be true (in that case, that relationship is superficial and I would suggest to any man to find a better women because he is “being had”). I would much rather believe that black women are dating “out” of their “race” because, with our higher levels of education and employment opportunities we are surrounded by more men on the same level academically and career-wise. They just so happen to not be black. It’s undeniable that most of the men in corporate America are white so it’s only natural that any woman surrounded by those men will have more of an opportunity to interact with them. By the way, Eddie Cibrian is a muy client Cuban-link, but whatever.

  • Asiatic Man

So according to him, the answer is to pair up an attractive black woman with a devil and promote it?

    • Bren

I wouldn’t call him a devil. The devil does not like when people are happy and are jealous of their success.

      • Straight Up

In this case Bren, the devil is happy because while you think you are happy in your ignorant bliss…you are contributing to your own demise. He knows this, so yes, he is happy. You’ve been fleeced, hoodwinked, bamboozled! Knowledge is power indeed.

    • Tru Words&Wisdom

      Why is he a devil?

      • Straight Up

Pick up a history book and you’ll have your answer

        • Tru Words&Wisdom

OK well in that regard black people should alienate themselves from every other race seeing as all around the world blacks were “imported” and sold. On that notion black people should hate themselves as well because certain tribes had slaves as well.
I’m not saying we should forget history, quite the contrary we must acknowledge it and be forthright HOWEVER the solution is not to call people devils and hate them. That mindset achieves nothing.

          • Straight Up

Nice try, but inter-tribal slavery is NOTHING compared to the atrocities that occurred during and the effects of European colonization and trans-Atlantic slavery….get real.

And per your very statement shows me that black people do indeed hate themselves MORE than they hate the very people who oppressed them in the past and continue to do today. Now there’s a mindset that achieves something….your very demise.

Here’s a suggestion. You should change your handle to “Tru Words&FOOLISHNESS” cuz there damn sure ain’t no wisdom coming from your keyboard.

            • Tru Words&Wisdom

For whatever reason my previous comment was deleted…..
I’m not going to bother to write all of what I had before you aren’t worth it.
Please do yourself a favor and Google map the nearest library and do research on Shaka Zulu, Zaire, Sudan, Somalia, Egypt, Tutsi tribe, Mexico during the times of the 500 Nations…. but with your rationality I suppose Africans torturing, oppressing, raping and killing each other is NOTHING compared to anything else. I suppose the dungeons and chains on African soil is also nothing compared to those on the ships that sent Africans to shores in different countries.
So while you continue to flap your gums and type away with asininity PLEASE tell us what are your solutions with dealing with culture and race differences?
Knowledge is power and it elevates so much struggle, perhaps you should acquire some because your mind is a weapon against itself.

    • Straight Up

Totally agree! I’m glad someone on this blog has some sense. I’m not supporting this movie now that I know this. Black people need to wake up.

  • guest

With friends like him successful Black women don’t need enemies..he wanted to degrade a sista.

  • Gabie Aldrich

To me it’s the person and how they get you…Not the race

  • Marina Calis

Black women are beginning to date outside their race because the quality of black men are slim to none.Successful black women need a man who will support them, someone who is loyal to the marriage or relationship,a man with values and morals and mentally stable for a relationship.Unfortunately black men priorities are not in order. They choose looks over a woman who with good health and good heart. They mindset is not on longterm commitments but how much sex they can obtain and how many women they can have.If black men don’t change there will be a lot more black women choosing white men.

    • 1Val

No good men are in every race. If you dated black men who lacked character the problem is you choosing them.

      • Mia

Its still not alot of good straight bm u can try to discount her observation. But u cant discount the high and growing of bm in prison and gay bm.

        • Herm Cain

You can’t discount the extremely high HIV statistics or the out of wedlock statistics that keep growing with black women as well add the weight problems and your options are slim to none you see how that works

          • Mia

Lol.. I’m sure u know how bw got hiv just like im sure u know how the brothers are getting hiv, from other black men especially black men in prison. Black women are not getting hiv from other black women. And weight honey black men are dont contribute to their women’s health. They break down a womans self esteem causing weight and insecurity problems. White men offer gym memberships, plastic surgery, support and comfort black men complain and belitte black and white women making the problem worse. White women seem to gain weight when they get with black men too. Kim Kardashian and Coco. I’ve heard ice tea call her h0 and itch, and say he likes her thicker. Theres no wonder why she is alot heavier than before she met him.

          • Mia

Also who is getting these black women pregnant and not marrying them? Black Men. Men ask to marry women not the other way around. Black men don’t want to get married or if they do they don’t stay married to black or any color woman.

            • Tyquinn

Most good (as in having their responsibilities in order) black women are self centered, dont know how to treat a man, have entitled attitudes and are extremely shallow.

              • Neco84

Or is it that we learn how to be respected and treated so we dont tolerate anything less? For goodness sakes, Ive been told I’m princess because I paid for dinner so I thought he should get the tab for the movie. Needless to say, no date after that.

            • Machone

Haven’t you heard? Most black men today are allergic to latex condoms and commitment…

              • Neco84

                LOLOLOL!!!

      • Bren

I agree with you. It’s not the color but the quality. If you attract negativity then negativity will be attracted to you.

    • Machone

Ladies and gentlemen, she just made a great point on today’s typical black men………

    • blogdiz

Its not a good look when BM denigrate BW to justify dating non black women and therefore it is ALSO not a good look for BW to do the same BM aint Sh$t Crap
Date who you want just stop putting down other people to feel better about your decisions

      • Marina Calis

My comment was not to put anyone down but to open their eyes to reality. The numbers speak for themselves.
