2013 has certainly been one of the greatest years in Kerry Washington’s career. The newly married beauty seems to have graced the cover of just about every women’s interest magazine. But that certainly won’t stop folks from snatching up the December 2013/January 2014 issue of Lucky—because honestly, people just can get enough of her (us included).
What may serve as a deterrent from purchasing a copy, however, is the cover. You see, people seem to be pretty upset about the image of Kerry that Lucky editors selected for the cover. And we can kind of see why, because honestly, Kerry doesn’t really look like herself. For one, the makeup and the lighting for the shoot appear to have distorted some of the Scandal actress’s distinct features. Then, there’s the retouching. People aren’t too thrilled about the hair or the pose either. Most have chalked the awkward looking cover shot up to Lucky‘s “inexperience” with photographing Black subjects.
“Suspect whoever shot and retouched Kerry Washington for Lucky Magazine isn’t used to lighting or working with a black model,” wrote on tweeter.
“The crapness of this Kerry WashingtonLucky magazine cover is startling and baffling. It has upset my spirit, wrote another.
We’ll probably never know if Kerry is actually happy with the cover or not. Not long after Lucky unveiled the new cover on Twitter, Kerry made it her profile image.
Of course, we still love Kerry all the same.
What do you think of the cover shot? Are people overreacting?
