Almost as soon as the concept for the Bravo TV show “Married To Medicine” became public, it was obvious there were going to be some problems. Almost instantly a petition arose urging the network to remove the reality TV program from its lineup due to its poor depiction of black female doctors and doctor’s wives essentially acting a plum fool in front of cameras. And at the time it seemed there was potential for Bravo to pull the plug on the series, but now that the show is slated to return for a second season, one of its stars and producers, Mariah Huq, is speaking out about the backlash.

In an interview with us, Mariah said she thought the petition was a bit premature since it was concocted before the show even aired. And speaking on whether she thought “Married To Medicine” would actually ever be cancelled, she calmly stated:

“I never for once thought the show would be cancelled because of the petition. I think they had three signatures.” (*insert Kanye shurg*)

Mariah had a similar reaction to questions about Tamar Braxton claiming the reality TV star has been stealing some of her catchphrases, like “yaaaaas.”To that allegation she said:

“I think Miss Tamar is cute. She’s very cute…

“I think it’s messy boots to think you are the only person who talks in third person…you have to understand a lot of people are like that. It’s crazy to think you are the only person with a big personality. That’s why you’re on TV. That’s why I’m on TV.”

In other words, Mariah ain’t got time for that. Check out the rest of our interview with the Atlanta diva in the video below as she talks about her using her middle name, Mariah, in place of her first name Lakeisha and having a “blackadeshi” relationship.
