Where you spend a good chunk of your waking life should be a space where you can truly be your best. Dealing with an abundance of unique personalities is never easy. Situations often get personal at work despite everyone’s best efforts to keep interactions professional. Try taking action!

While you shouldn’t jump into an explosive confrontation it is important to not let someone’s unprofessional attitude go unchallenged. Addressing the situation with direct communication diffuses a lot of defensiveness and ensures you don’t enable a co-workers unprofessional behavior. This doesn’t mean being catty or abrasive. Rather, taking the bull by the horns, addressing issues with the goal of moving past them so they’re never mentioned again. Being the instigator of positive action, establishes your ability to work with others (even those you don’t get along with) and sends the message that it’s the job we all have to be concerned with. Not personal pettiness.

Take charge of your work environment once and for all.
