The mother of slain rapper Tupac Shakur, Afeni Shakur, is heading to court. According to TMZ, Afeni is claiming that distribution and production company, eOne, has stiffed Tupac’s estate out of royalties stemming from his posthumous album, Beginnings: The Lost Tapes 1988-1991, which was released back in 2007.
The lawsuit reveals that eOne Music purchased the rights to Tupac’s music from Death Row Records back in July, but part of the agreement required the company to continue paying royalties to Pac’s estate— something Afeni is claiming that they haven’t done. As a result, she is suing for $1.1 million in unpaid royalties. She is also requesting that eOne turn over all master recordings of all of her son’s unreleased music. eOne has yet to publicly comment on Afeni’s lawsuit.
It will be very interesting to see how this all plays out. We will continue to keep you posted as this story develops.
