In the past, Basketball Wives has been a product that practically sold itself. Though executive producer Shaunie O’Neal was also a part of the cast, she didn’t have to do much–with the exception of her occasional pot-stirring and instigating antics, of course. Nor did she have to give up much about her personal life because cast members like Tami Roman and Evelyn Lozada were like open books, offering addicted viewers plenty of entertainment. Naturally, this made them two of the show’s more dominate characters. That’s all about to change though, at least according to Shaunie it is. During a recent interview with Hello Beautiful, the 38-year-old entrepreneur confessed that she’s ready to show the “real” her and part of that means no longer taking the backseat to Tami and Ev.
“I just feel like, at this point, I probably just didn’t speak up enough. Previous seasons, I kind of sat back and was like whatever, ya know, I’m here and I’m doing my job. Evelyn and Tami have a such a strong personality that it’s very easy to sit back and just let them go and not really have much to say.
The mother of five went on to address the rift-causing comment that she made about co-star Tami Roman and her short fuse to Tasha Marbury.
“I really don’t see and didn’t see it as negative, but I could understand where she was coming from. I think it comes in a place where she’s defensive about her past. I think anything said is kind of a touchy thing with her. Maybe it was negative in someone’s eyes, but I don’t feel that way. I still stand by what I said. At the end of the day it didn’t make a negative impression, so why the hell was it an issue at all?”
Interestingly, she also had something to say about fans referring to the current season as boring.
“I think everyone has something to say [about the show] regardless. If it’s too dramatic, they have something to say. If it’s not dramatic enough, they have something to say and I realize that.”
