You probably don’t know this, but I love Audra McDonald. I mean, I ADORE her and all the work she’s done in the entertainment industry. So you know I’m excited that she’s going to be in the remake of The Sound of Music, right? Right.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed earlier this week that five time Tony winner McDonald has been cast as Mother Abess, head of Nonnberg Abbey, in the film which will air on NBC.

She joins Carrie Underwood who plays the lead role of Maria and the cast has shaped up rather nicely.  Underwood’s original role was played by the great Julie Andrews.

McDonald is consistently working. After her full-time role ended on Private Practice, she went back to her theater roots where she earned her fifth Tony for her work in Porgy & Bess.  She will also co-star in a new CBS pilot called The Ordained.

The great thing about the remake is that the entire cast is full of true singers, most having appeared on Broadway in the past.  The singing should be great (and yes, I love Carrie Underwood so she’s included in that statement) and do the original proud.

We look forward to seeing Audra McDonald in yet another role! The Sound of Music is set to premiere on NBC December 5th.
