DJ Mister Cee Opens Up In New Sexual Freedom And AIDS Awareness PSA
After openly admitting that he is attracted to transgender females, legendary media personality DJ Mister Cee is using his story to promote awareness about sexuality in hip hop and AIDS prevention. Starring in a new PSA sponsored by the AIDS Health Foundation, the Brooklyn native opened up about his personal struggles regarding his sexual identity.
“The decision I have made this week to open up about my sexuality has been the most difficult thing I have ever had to do in my life. But I felt like this was the time to do it both personally and professionally,” the 20-year music vet says at the start of the video.
“For me, I was worried about how my family would be affected, how my co-workers, my friends and even my fans would be affected by this decision. In this hip hop community of ours, it’s not cool to be gay. It’s not cool to be bisexual. I felt that if I were to just be honest about myself, no one would want to deal with me anymore. But the more that I kept lying and trying to deceive you and myself, the more I became closed in, ” he continues.
The self-proclaimed “finisher” went on to say that he’s thankful for supportive family and friends who supported him in exercising his “human right to sexual freedom.” Cee also revealed that he has chosen to join forces with the AIDS Healthcare Foundation to promote “a new sexual revolution.”
“Today, right now, it’s about sexual freedom. You don’t have to be afraid, but you do have to be careful and protect yourself.”
After sharing alarming statistics about AIDS in the Black and Hispanic communities, he urged listeners to take charge of their sexual health by protecting themselves.
“Make sure you guys take care of yourselves. Check out the AIDS Healthcare Foundation. There’s no judgement. No stigma. No shame whatsoever. Wanna know why? Because AHF is revolutionary. Are you? The next sexual revolution is beginning right now, it’s the battle for sexual health. We all have a right to a sexual life that is free from shame and disease.”
“I opened up to y’all today. I gave you all of me. Now I want you to give all of yourself.”
The video closes with Cee challenging his audience to question their own sexual health.
