That’s A Deal And A Half! United Accidentally Sold Free Flights On Thursday & They’re Honoring Them!
Some travelers who went on United Airlines yesterday found that the airline ticket they were looking for came at the bargain-basement price of zero dollars. I’ll take two! One for me and the other for my purse.
A computer glitch posted some tickets on the website for $0 to $10 yesterday, with an unknown number of those tickets sold. Nominal fees of $5 or $10 were added to the price. One woman who got a ticket from Minneapolis to Houston, then on to Washington DC and back home for $10 told USA Today she’s curious to see if the airline will honor these tickets. The airline seems to be curious about that as well. A spokesperson told the Associated Press that the company will do “what is appropriate” but didn’t specify what that is. But back in 2008 when another glitch omitted a $130 fuel fee, the airline honored the tickets at no additional charge.
When people starting tweeting and buzzing about the deals, United caught on and shut down all reservations until 2:45 pm CT when booking resumed at the regular prices. Dang it social media!
Update: United announced that they will be honoring the tickets that were given away during yesterday’s computer glitch. What a way to end the week!
