Sneak Peek: See What’s Coming On The Queen Latifah Show
Just yesterday, when I was walking to the train after work, I saw one of those giant advertisements on the side of one of the city buses, Queen Latifah’s face big as day. I remember thinking, well alright this is really happening. Earlier this summer we reported that Queen Latifah was partnering up with CBS, Jada Pinkett Smith and Lenny Kravitz to bring a new and improved version of the Queen Latifah show back to the airwaves. Pinkett-Smith and Kravitz serve as producers and Kravitz’ design company is behind the set which they call the “BigHot.”
The 43 year old will debut her new talk show on CBS on September 16th. During a recent media session, Jada Pinkett Smith and Queen Latifah explained why Queen is not “the next Oprah” and why they feel her show will be a hit.
The next Oprah
“People have often asked me do I want to be the next Oprah. There is no such thing. Oprah is Oprah. And she’s still being Oprah if anyone hadn’t noticed. Obviously there are great things she accomplished and I would love to be able to accomplish some of those things. But what I bring to television is me. I’m Queen Latifah. I had a different life story and different path that I’ve traveled.”
Jada on why Queen’s the woman for the job.
“She’s very funny, she’s very witty, she’s very intelligent and she has a lot of heart, I think what we’re missing [in daytime] today is heart. So Latifah, to me, when we did the research on her – across the board from [age] 3 to 80, people love her; women, men, kids.”
We do indeed love Queen Latifah and hope this works out for her. Judging from the trailers, it seems like it’ll be a good time. From the promos, she’s going to interview guests like Will Smith, Steve Martin, (her co-star in Bringing Down The House–love that movie!), and Jamie Foxx. There’s footage of musical guest Emeli Sande and there’s even a clip of Queen singing herself. If you didn’t know her jazz record, The Dana Owens Album was pretty awesome. Looks like something we’ll check out.
