I’m really starting to believe that you can’t call yourself being for black unity, and against white supremacy, and yet still hold on to the tenants of homophobia and sexism.
Yet some folks, who align themselves with the concept of black unity and anti-racism spend a considerable amount of time doing just that. You might know what I’m talking about, particularly if you have an internet connection. I like to call them the YouTube street corner philosophers. These are the dudes with names like King Righteous Haruki or Shabazz the Noble One or even Doctor. They claim all black everything; tend to mix-in lots of religious theology and symbolism with their nationalism and claim to know “The Truth,” which they will gladly share with you (for a low price) via lecture on DVDs, .mp4, .mp3, and a t-shirt. They also believe that everything is a mass conspiracy to destroy the black community – and by black community, they really mean black men. Conspiracies like feminism and homosexuality, which were both manufactured by white men to remove the black man’s rightful place as leaders in their homes and the community – because what good is leadership if it doesn’t have a captive audience, right?
Generally speaking, I tend to find these YouTube philosophers as pretty innocuous (with exception to the small army of women and homosexuals, who follow them and help to propagate their own personal oppression) and on occasion, macabrely entertaining. But according to the Southern Law Center, which monitors hate groups and activities in the United States, maybe some of them are not as harmless
By day, Ayo Kimathi works for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as a small business specialist in a unit that buys such items as handcuffs, ammunition and guns. Off-duty, he calls himself “the Irritated Genie.” He’s a gay-bashing, revenge-seeking black nationalist who advocates on his website – War on the Horizon – the mass murder of whites and the “ethnic cleansing” of “black-skinned Uncle Tom race traitors.”
“Warfare is eminent,” the website declares, “and in order for Black people to survive the 21st century, we are going to have to kill a lot of whites – more than our Christian hearts can possibly count.”
A former supervisor of Kimathi’s at the DHS told Hatewatch, “Everybody in the office is afraid of him.”
“This guy is filled with hate,” the supervisor continued. “People are afraid he will come in with a gun someday and go postal. I am astounded, he’s employed by the federal government, let alone Homeland Security.”
All I know is that there are lots of dudes name “Seti,” elbow deep in Shea butter and incense cones, reading this report wide-eyed and mouthed right now. This is almost sort of like the Spook, Who Sat By The Door but instead of sitting by the door, he decided to walk through the door, pull up a seat behind a desk, take out a BIC pen and apply for a job. One might consider the moral conundrum of “killing ” when you are actively taking a paycheck from the white man’s institution but nope, not this brother. He’s going to instruct other black folks to fight the white man, while he sits comfortably, getting his overtime, paid vacation and sick leave and participating in the office’s birthday club too. And we are not just talking about any government job like trash man or file clerk at the office of records; we are talking about a guy, whose job it is to help the white man’s law agency (particularly the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency) to procure weapons for the purpose of enforcing the white man’s borders. Sounds mighty counter-revolutionary to me.
For those not familiar with War on the Horizon or Kimathi, aka the Irritated Genie, you can watch some of his lectures for free on YouTube. Be warned that they are really long (on average of 2 hours) and involve an overindulgence of Power Point slides with clips from popular films and pictures, stolen from Google images. For the most part, the mainstream media, which has picked up on this story, has been mostly focused on his kill and his anti-Obama rhetoric, particularly calling the president a “mulatto f*ggot.” However what’s most troubling about Irritated Genie’s ideology is that it leeches off of some pretty identifiable themes of black empowerment including wealth building; proper mental health; education and being politically active, to promote some pretty regressive attitudes, if not misinformation. In the lecture Feminism & Lesbianism: Put Some Clothes on Sisters Irritated Genie issues thinly disguised paternalistic and misogynistic attacks on black women, who dare refuse her “natural” order under the thumb of black men. In the lecture Bayard Rustin Corrupts Dr. Martin Luther King’s Movement Irritated Genie calls the famed black (and gay) civil rights leader, who served as both Dr. King’s closest advisor and the architect of the March on Washington, a “white sex offender” and Dr. King Jr. a race traitor for not telling his supporters about Rustin’s sexual identity. Irritated Genie has a particularly bee in his bonnet for what he calls the “gay agenda” as evident in his lecture, “Homosexuals” Invade the Pan-Afrikan/Black Nationalist Movement, which he even attacks other members of the black nationalist community for not vigilantly calling out the gay community. And on the official WOH website, under the tab of “Effeminization,” The irritated one gives us a six part series of lectures, averaging about 2 hours a piece, just alone on the topic of homosexuals – because nothing says anti-gay agenda like talking about gay people for upwards of 12 hours.
I could go on (and on) but I think I’ve painted a pretty decent picture. Unfortunately, there are many folks, rocking the label of “conscious,” who feel that the only way to gain power is by preaching and emulating the same sort of white pseudo-science of their oppressors. Under the guise of love for black people, some of these folks promote nothing but division and interracial hatred, which seems like a counter-productive tactic for the coming race war. I mean, how could you ever build a big enough army of able-bodied and willing black fisted fighters when you keep finding inconsiderable reasons to kick the “undesirable” out the platoon? Heck, even the United States Military has since evolved on allowing homosexuals to openly serve.
Of course, the million dollar question is, how does a dude so vehemently anti-everything, pull a Clark Kent over his employers, who just happen to be the DHS? I mean, they stay snooping in everybody else’s business, surely they have the ability to sniff out a double-agent within its ranks? According to the SLC:
“Because it is a law enforcement agency, the supervisor said, employees are required to obtain official permission in writing for any outside activities, such as working a second job at McDonalds, running the bingo game at church, or volunteering at the Red Cross. Kimathi obtained official permission but only by misrepresenting the true nature of his endeavor. He told management that it was an entertainment website selling videos of concerts and lectures. He called it simply WOH, never saying that WOH stood for War on the Horizon. “If he had adequately and truthfully described his group,” the supervisor said, “I can’t imagine for a minute he would have been granted permission.”
The deputy press security for ICE also told The Atlantic Wire that they would be conducting a thorough investigation into Kimathi and his WOH website. However as of right now, Kimathi is still in the company’s birthday club.
