To Catch A Cheater: NBC Fires “To Catch A Predator” Host Chris Hansen After Extramarital Affair Revealed

Who hasn’t watched an episode of Dateline’s To Catch A Predator program in the past and been hooked? There was nothing more defining of ratchet reality TV (before VH1 took over) like watching a fully undressed middle-aged fool walk into the home of an alleged pre-teen, be confronted by Chris Hansen, who would proceed to walk out from behind a curtain asking “WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE!?” and then watching the creeper get jumped on while on his way out of the house by police, like a gazelle being jumped on by a lion on the Serengeti. Now THAT is TV!
But unfortunately, it seems that Chris Hansen will no longer have the chance to scare the crap out of perverts, nor expose scams around the world or just get to report stories for Dateline and NBC News, because after 20 years of work for NBC, he’s been given the boot. According to the New York Post, Hansen’s contract wasn’t renewed by NBC after 20 years of work, and they put out a statement to TV Guide Magazine saying the following:
“Chris has been a valued member of the team and we thank him for his many contributions to Dateline and NBC News over the last 20 years. We wish him the very best.”
So why is this an end of an era? According to Radar Online, it’s because photos they published just a few weeks ago of Hansen passionately kissing a woman who’s NOT his wife revealed a controversial extramarital affair he has been having for a while, and been trying to hide. Clearly things were starting to get too messy.
The woman he was seen kissing in the photo obtained by Radar was Kristyn Caddell, 32, also a journalist, and she says that she’s been blackballed in the news industry ever since her relationship with Hansen became public two years ago (plus, she’s a little pissed that he didn’t leave his wife as he had once promised). She decided to make things worse I guess by giving Radar multiple pictures of the two together during their relationship, and seemed to do so to speak out against the double standard she’s living, where his career went on with no problem, while her own has been stifled.
“No matter what your philosophy is on someone who has an affair — if it was the man or the woman’s fault — there are two people involved and if I can’t work, he should not be able to work. I have lived the double standard. A double standard is an understatement as to what happens in this industry: The women get fired, and the men keep going.”
Seems she getting just what she’s been thirsting for, because Hansen is out at NBC. Hansen, 54, put out a statement saying that he would focus on “hosting and executive producing projects that will be announced in the coming months,” but didn’t speak on the affair. One of many reasons why folks need to keep it in their pants.
Well, it was interesting to watch while it lasted Chris Hansen…though I like to call you Chris “Handsome.” Hey, I know I’m not the only one who has seen that Boondocks episode…
