Time Is Money: Judge Slaps Rihanna With $47,000 Fine For Playing Hooky During Scheduled Court Dates
As the saying goes, time is money, and lately, Rihanna has been wasting both. As a result, a judge has ordered her to pay accordingly. Last year the 25-year-old pop star filed a lawsuit against her former accountants— Berdon LLP— alleging that they mismanaged her finances and that they actually owe her money. The managers, however, claim that they don’t owe her a dime and that she’s been squandering her cash all by herself. Since last year’s initial filing, Rih Rih has blown off five deposition dates.
A couple of weeks ago, we told you that Berdon attorneys filed a motion, petitioning that a judge throw out the case and fine her $100,000, money that they claim to have lost in attorney’s fees while trying to accommodate her schedule for deposition dates.
For one particular date in November of 2012, the “Loveee Song” singer was granted an extension. As for the others, according to reports, she either had concerts or avoided the date completely. On June 19th, she said that she couldn’t appear in court because she was sick; a story that Berdon isn’t buying since she had no problems tweeting and performing on the day before and the day after the aforementioned date. Unfortunately for Rih Rih, the judge has decided to honor the defendants request… sort of. TMZ is reporting that Rihanna’s seemingly irresponsible antics will cost her $47,050 because that’s what the courts have ordered her to pay in fines. The money will reportedly go towards Berdon’s legal bills.
In addition to the hefty fine, the Bajan beauty has been ordered to appear in court for an August 28th deposition. To add icing to the cake, we hear that if she pulls another no-show, the judge will consider throwing out the case entirely.
Come on, Rih Rih. Get it together.
