Full disclosure I’ve been done with Terrence Howard for some time now. I can’t really explain it and I know it’s not very rational but the man always seemed to give off a sinister vibe, compounded by the shady type characters he was always playing.

As time went on my assumption about Howard proved to be true when he was arrested for allegedly assaulting his estranged wife in 2001.

Now, this doesn’t have much to do with this story but I say this to say ever since I learned this fact, I find fault with virtually everything he says. And it’s really not hard. He’s been known to say some very…interesting things. Today, we’re talking about something he said in 2007 in Elle: (Beware, if you shy away from discussing issues of hygiene, this post is not for you.)

“Toilet paper – and no baby wipes – in the bathroom. If they’re using dry paper, they aren’t washing all of themselves. It’s just unclean. So if I go in a woman’s house and see the toilet paper there, I’ll explain this. And if she doesn’t make the adjustment to baby wipes, I’ll know she’s not completely clean.”

Interesting right? But I’m sure some of you are thinking “why you bringing up old ish?” You have a point. This quote was brought to my attention because Howard was recently asked about the whole baby wipe controversy again in an interview with Jezebel.

“I stated my position pretty clearly. More people need to use them. This is a very serious subject. What more is there to say?”

When the interviewer asked him how many women he’s been able to convert, the publicist stops the conversation, Terrence Howard gets up and walks out.

… Aside from him walking out, let’s talk about this baby wipe issue. Howard says women who don’t use them aren’t completely clean. I can understand pieces of his argument there are some days when a wash up after a bathroom break is completely necessary. But like I said Terrence Howard is different. So let’s take him out of the equation and consider whether you really need wet wipes in order to be clean.

Why can’t that person, a woman specifically, hop in the shower or bathtub after whatever activity that would require a wipe swipe? That’s generally my practice seeing as I don’t like to make a habit of pooping in public. Or you know hop in the shower sometime before you go to bed or before you and your hind parts engage in any extracurricular activity.

I actually have an aversion to baby wipes because I like to feel dry when I’m clean. That lingering, wet feeling you get with baby wipes makes me feel extremely uncomfortable. Is that moisture from the wipes or something else? Mysterious moisture is almost a fear of mine. But I have my own issues.

Thing is, Terrence Howard isn’t the only man promoting the necessity of wet wipes fellow celebrities like Will.I.Am and  Bruno Mars also discussed their love for wet wipes. It’s a thing.

And I get it. Honestly, I’m surprised Howard wasn’t recommending this wipe thing specifically for the fellas. I know, I know everybody poops but historically, men have a well documented track record of not being the cleanest when it comes to after potty clean up. I’d argue stereotypically, women are better wipers. Maybe the target audience should have been a bit different.

My coworker speculated that the wipes were so vitally important because Howard and others like him probably toss salads No judgement. But if that’s the case, I would think soap and water and not just a measly wipe would be enough for him to feel safe inside there.

I read an article on xojane where a woman said that because of Terrence Howard’s wet wipe comments, she started using them so she wouldn’t be automatically disqualified as a dating prospect.

I understand her quest to be cleaner but I sincerely hope a man like Terrence Howard is not her ideal.

But let me be fair. Even though Terrence is not my fave, I understand we all have to have our standards.

What do you think about this whole wet wipes issue? Are you not completely clean if you don’t use a wet wipe?
