Pass Or Play? Nicki Minaj Leaves Mario For Dead in “Somebody Else”

I don’t know about you, but I’m a sucker for break up songs. No matter where I am in my romantic life, you can never go wrong with a good break up song.

Cue new song from Mario and Nicki.

In “Somebody Else” both Mario and Nicki lament a relationship turned sour. The track is a head bobber, neck breaker with an old school vocal sampling from a song recorded by a’70’s Chicago group called 21st Century. The track is “Remember The Rain.” Like the original track, “Somebody Else” is a more mellow song. And even Nicki’s verse is more subdued and doesn’t bring the typical hype energy we’ve become accustomed to from her. And that’s not a bad thing at all. Variety is the spice of life.

Honestly, the track outshines the vocals as Mario sounds over-autotuned at times. And though, at the end, I feel like there’s something missing, it’s a song I want to keep listening to. It’s catchy.

Check out the video and the song for yourself and let us know what you think, pass or play?

I love the song but I could definitely pass on the video. I have to disagree about the auto tuning. I think Mario is in top form & I can’t get enough of this song. Chris Brown, talented as he is, released his own version & there is just no competition.
