We all know him for his (in)famous role on “Sex And City,” playing Carrie’s playing possum boyfriend and eventually, husband. Chris Noth, better known as Mr. Big, has done a good job keeping his private life, private. But last week in a candid interview with the Wall Street Journal, Noth admitted he receives hate mail from time to time for having an interracial family. He stated during his interview:

“When I was in a play on Broadway two years ago I’d occasionally get letters of outrage, usually from somewhere in Alabama or something, saying y’know, ‘Don’t come down here with your wife,’” he said.

Chris Noth married his long-term girlfriend, Tara Lynn Wilson, last year in a private ceremony in Hawaii after meeting her at his music venue in New York City, The Cutting Room, where she worked. They now have a 5-year-old son, Orion.

Check out the WSJ interview below and let us know what do you think about Noth’s comments about his son living in a post-racial society. Recently a lot of interracial celebrity couples  have stated race/racism is no longer a problem. Rapper Eve and reality television star Kim Kardashian both suggested raising their children color-blind.  Are they on to something or living in a fantasy?

Unfortunately they are living in a fantasy created by their rarefied environments. Everyday people who are not famous could tell them a thing or two. That being said, I would love to see a colorblind society and do my possible to acheive it.

Not post racial yet!! This is the wake up call people are still racist era via internet!!

    • Ona2684

OMG! The comments some ppl make on the net are absolutely outrageous. Racism is indeed alive and well and in some cases getting worse. So sad but so true.

He said it perfectly…celebs using their wedding to make money is “gross” and I would add PATHETIC…..kim kardashian and star jones come to mind…what is the condition of their marriages now???? exactly…to be honest..every time I see a celeb with a whole edition on their wedding…I think..little love, alot of narcissism.

P.S dear administrators of MN, the automatic videos that play on the side panel are….ABSOLUTELY ANNOYING…everytime I come to this sight I instinctively put my laptop on mute. I have never found interest in any interview there and for the past couple days..Lyfe Jennings voice began to sound like nails on a chalk board, PLEASE,PLEASE,PLEASE….make it an option to listen.

    • ona2684

What exactly does any of that have to do with the article? I do agree about the videos tho lol!

We do not live in a post racial society it’s just a more tolerant one that’s all – I’m in an interracial relationship and I really don’t give a flying kahoota what anyone thinks – live and let live. I’m still on the Eiffel Tower ‘marriage’ though lol – surely this is a bigger problem?

I personally hate that term color-blind. Why is it wrong to notice or use someones race or coloring as a description. I am a graying overweight middle-aged black woman. Yes, all those words describe me. My husband is a fit balding brown haired blue eyed white man in glasses. Why am I “allowed” to see his brown hair or glasses, but not his damn near glow in the dark white skin? Why is he “allowed’t o see or mention my gray hair, but not my brown skin?

Not noticing my skin is like not noticing I’m a woman. Neither means I deserve any more or less proper treatment, but pretending one can not see I am female or middle-aged or black or fat is just silly.

Is America “post-racial”? No, obviously we’re not there yet.
Should we raise our kids to treat ethnicity as just a surface thing, no more important than hairstyle or shoe size? Yes, because that’s how we get there.

I live in California and work in San Francisco. You wouldn’t think there isn’t racism there because of diversity and the gay community, but there is.See people (Asian and white) using racial slurs while I’m on public transportation .

Most of San Francisco now is made up Asian and White thus pushing out the African American community out of the city . I worked at UCSF who claimed to be diverse but do not have AA in management positions or AA nurses. I see them hire AA as temps and let them go . But have a white person late all the time and keep them.

I just came back from a week in SFO. I did notice the dearth of black folks there. A big change from even just ten years ago. SFO is an expensive place to live and I wounder if we just got priced out of the market there.

I didn’t hear any racial remarks while there, but no one, White or Asian, and I felt largely tourists from who knows where, sat next to me or another middle aged black woman on the cable car. She made a comment about racism being alive and well. I said I didn’t think it was racism as much as it was fear. Fear of what, I didn’t know. I guess they thought I was going to rob them on the cable car. Carjack it maybe?

So I looked at the several white women standing over us and announced I don’t bite. A 20something white girl chuckled and sat down. A 40something white woman said they were just being polite. I asked if I was white would she be so “polite” or would she have sat down in the open seat? Ms 40something did not respond.

I wished my white husband was with me. I wonder if they would have sat next to him.

“SFO is an expensive place to live”

…..lol I’m sorry, I know this isn’t the point of your post, but SFO is just the code for the airport, the abbreviation for the city is just SF. I’d hate for you to say that in polite company. Sooo you’re welcome

        • HUH

That was a perfectly stupid response. Get those toilet paper rolls out of your butt.

          • ..

sorry, being from there it just amused me. Do lighten up though, it’s a little late to be so angry, no?

      • real

someone won’t sit next to you on a cable car? *gasp* gotta be racism.

I mean come on. I’m not one of those people who has their head in the sand about existing racism. But I also try not to perceive every semi-offensive thing someone does as racism.

Thats cause Carrie has a horse face, at least according to Family Guy.

  • Kam

In 2013 why are interracial relationships even an issue. Especially with so many things going on in the world that have a real effect on people, you know poverty, war, unemployment, the price of coffee, you know regular stuff. My grandmother told me when I was little, “most bigot’s problem isn’t with you, its their own fears of change and pure ignorance. Don’t let them stop your show”.

    • ariesdollface

no one will ever know how pleased i am that “the price of coffee” made it into this commentary, :D

  • Clowj

We DONT live in a post racial society. People need to stop repeating that!

    • Guest

      AMEN!!!! Thank you!

  • NatashaDecemberBabyThomas

People need to get a life! Go focus on your own life instead what other people are doing with theirs, this show how damn immature and sad you really are.

i remember something like this happened to me while at the movies with my bf. a group of black dudes was like “he aint hitting that right” and “WTF is going on” lol but that was about eight years ago. It happens today but it is becoming less frequent

    • Alexis Morris

I hate when black chicks try and ask me what is s*x like! it’s different because all men aren’t the same no matter the color. no such thing as black s*x and white s*x being different.

      • IllyPhilly

LOL, why is that the first place people go? I understand where you’re coming from.

Ofcourse it had to be from Alabama…right?

  • Tosh

I dunno I’m actually mad b/c im in Alabama! shiz neva gets old but I have never encountered
racial slurs or people in birmingham, not saying there not around I just thank God I neva had to go through that myself (smh)

    • Terrance D

I’m from Alabama as well. In my 40 years of life, I’ve never encountered in openly racial slurs or bigotry. I don’t have my head stuck in the sand or not oblivious to the violent racial past of my state (I’m a high school World History teacher). But, Alabama is NOT the only state or area of the country in which racist idiots voice their disapproval for interracial marriages (couples). We (Alabama) are the burnt of many a racists, back woods, redneck, “bama”, etc. jokes (and deservedly so). But, don’t pretend as though we (Alabama) have the only racists jerks in the country. There is a litany of racist idiots and (undercover) segregation in the North, Midwest and West.

By the way, I’m a black dude.

      • Trudy

Great point. I tire of the myth of Northern “colourblindness” and Southern racism. It is an elitist lie with roots pre-Civil War. Further, James Baldwin wrote so well about this “Northerners indulge in an extremely dangerously luxury. They seem to feel that because they fought on the right side during The Civil War, and won, they have earned the right to merely deplore what is going on in the South, without taking any responsibility for it; and that they can ignore what is happening in Northern cities because what is happening in Little Rock or Birmingham is worse. Well, in the first place, it is not possible for anyone who has not endured both to know which is ‘worse.’ I know Negroes who prefer the South and white Southerners, because ‘At least there, you haven’t got to play any guessing games!’ The guessing games referred to have driven more than one Negro into the narcotics ward, the madhouse or the river.”

Arizona was the first state to pass the birther bill and the last state to acknowledge Dr. King’s birthday.

      • IllyPhilly

Damn sure true! Step just a few feet outside of Philly and you’d think it was 1913.

  • Child_Puhleez

Oh, good grief. If two people find colorless, ’till-the-end-of-time kind of love, what business is that of any idiot bigot?

  • Alexis Morris

you know that’s a darn shame. they act like they never seen an interracial couple. They better get over it, men are going with men that are dressing like women and all kinds of stuff. A girl is claiming to be married to the eiffel tower. this racism stuff is getting pure silly.

    • sabrina

A girl is claiming to be married to the eiffel tower???!!! LOL!!!! I. Am. Weak.

      • Alexis Morris

she was on tyra banks. erica eiffel.
