Although he seemed to always slip on his tap dancing shoes whenever the topic of marriage came up, many of us had high hopes for Ne-Yo and his longtime girlfriend and children’s mother, Monyetta Shaw. The duo really seemed like they had what it takes to survive the Hollywood curse, but unfortunately, looks can be deceiving. The “Let Me Love You” singer recently took to his Instagram page to announce that he and the brown-skinned bombshell have decided to go their separate ways.

“Though fate had decided to split our romantic paths, know that I will ALWAYS love you. Forever your partner. Forever your friend. Forever my miracle,” the image read.

“I’ll always be there. ALWAYS.@incognemo Forever my miracle,” he added.

Although Ne-Yo’s announcement made it appear that the split was all butterflies and rainbows, fans bashed the 33-year-old R&B crooner for not dealing with the split privately.

“No worries! Got a gang of bad chicks!!!! #girlpower #betweekend #letsgo #goodtimes,” in a subliminal message beneath a photo that appears to be in response to Ne-Yo’s post.

Under normal circumstances, we would say that Ne-Yo’s message seems pretty black and white and leaves no room for speculation, but something seems awfully strange about his announcement. Some have implied that it’s a publicity stunt in an effort to promote his upcoming album, which is certainly seems like a possibility when you consider how poorly his last release did. But I suppose we will all have to stay tuned to find out what’s really going on.

Not surprised; women need to stop having children by men, who don’t love them enough to make an emotional commitment. Living together and marriage are not the same. Another negative statistic for black folk.

    • PleaseDOBetter

Yes, us women do. However, we also cannot impose our individual value sets on others. That may not be what she wanted (or needed) and at the end of the day, we can’t consider Black statistics in every facet of our lives.

      • StrongInMyFaith

She clearly wanted marriage, hence she accepted the proposal. Having your own set of values and sticking to them is not imposing them on anyone they are YOUR values. Living together and marriage are NOT the same and if marriage is what u want don’t accept the knockoff and set up shop with someone who has not committed themselves to you. Stop giving all of yourself to people who give pieces to you hoping they will change. I wouldn’t be anyone’s girlfriend for life and I wouldn’t live with anyone I’m not married to. If that is a problem for a man then NEW MAN. It’s not imposing, tell people what u want and if they never want it move on. Saves both of u the trouble. smh @ sticking to my values is imposing it on someone

I stick to what I wrote a year ago. Based on your response, it seems as if you did not fully understand what I wrote.

I am wondering why she had to be described as a “brown-skinned bombshell.”

    • Tasha Mayhorn

That’s exactly what I was thinking, would they have said that if she was not “brown-skinned”, and them calling her “bombshell” is questionable too!

      • Chey

Really though? She IS brown-skinned and she IS beautiful…so what’s the problem?

He already knew what was coming and I suppose he’s one of many doing something in the pubic eye for promotion points. Bashing him is only a sign that his efforts were valid. Oh and the “baby mama” will be getting paid as well one way or another.
