While MadameNoire was in Los Angeles this past weekend to report on the BET Experience Live, we enjoyed a unique experience outside of the main festivities — the one provided by Marriott International as part of their #ForYouWereMarriott campaign. As the official host hotel of the BET Experience, the JW Marriott LA Live, located right on the L.A. Live campus, provided accommodations for everyone from overnight guests to seminar attendees, party-goers, and more.
As acquaintances and friends networked in the lobby of the 21-floor JW Marriott LA Live, influential movers and shakers in the entertainment industry met upstairs in the hotel’s platinum ballrooms for a series of BET Revealed celebrity panel discussions. Beverly Bond, along with actress Holly Robinson-Peete, rapper Lil Mama, Brown University Professor of Africana Studies Tricia Rose, and writer Michaela Angela Davis came together for a special Black Girls Rock! discussion on “Rebuilding the Village”, while professional female athletes Lisa Leslie and Laila Ali spoke on “Making Moves Outside The Game” and not only building businesses, but brands consumers can believe in.
Über talented Grammy-Award winning singer/song writer and producer Pharrell Williams was the featured speaker of his own “Genius Talk,” where he revealed what fuels his creative business ventures; and down the hall, Snoop Lion, T.I., Congresswoman Maxine Waters, and Fruitvale Station director Ryan Coogler raised awareness of the powerful anti-gun violence initiative #NoGunsAllowed.
Although all of this past weekend’s festivities were leading up to the highly anticipated 12th annual BET Awards at Nokia Theater, what most people were really looking forward to was the after party, and once again Marriott International had us covered.
The official BET Awards After Party took place inside the JW Marriott LA Live and it was the place to be after the awards for a number of reasons. Not only could you find customary food and drink, courtesy of specialty stations like a Kettle One open bar, you could also rub elbows with the likes of BET’s CEO Debra Lee, singer El Debarge, “The Game’s” Jay Ellis, and reality star Shay “Buckey” Johnson.
Marriott International also catered to attendee’s practical needs with a shoe shine station for gentlemen to get their kick’s polished, and a beauty bar where ladies could touch up their make-up and hair after stepping off the red carpet and enjoying the awards ceremony. And we’d be lying if we didn’t admit the best part of all of this pampering was the complimentary pair of cushie Marriott slippers every lady received to give her feet some much-needed TLC after walking around in heels all night! And we can’t forget about the music which was provided by none other than Black Girls Rock! creator DJ Beverly Bond who was on the scene mixing old school tunes on the ones and twos.
And did we mention there were prizes? See that bed up top there? Someone went home with that! On top of giving BET Live memorable weekend experiences, Marriott International sent lucky winners home with gifts they will surely never forget. From an official hotel bed to reward points and platinum upgrades, there was something for everyone looking to create exceptional travel experiences in the future and relive the great time they had in L.A. this past weekend.
