Earlier this month, we told you about the controversy surrounding an adorable Cheerios commercial featuring a biracial family. In the commercial, a mother informs her daughter that Cheerios promote heart health, which prompts the inquisitive youngster to walk off with a box of Cheerios. In the heart-warming surprise ending, the girl’s father, who was napping in the couch, wakes up with a pile of Cheerios on his chest. Well, some people weren’t too pleased about Cheerios featuring a biracial family and had no qualms with expressing their views in the video’s comments section on YouTube. The video generated such intense racial backlash that General Mills had to disable the comments.
In response to the controversy, producer, Kenji, put together a hilarious parody video, pointing out just how ridiculous intolerant bigots who were outraged by the commercial seem.
“Mom, is it true that eating a healthy breakfast cereal like we do every morning normal and in the year 2013 the way our family looks shouldn’t be such a big deal?” the little girl asks her mom.
“Well, it says here that Cheerios is heart healthy and I say we have the God-given right to stuff our faces with whatever we want, and with whomever we want. No matter what the haters say,” the mother responds.
The video also invites “haters” to “eat it” and has a pretty interesting surprise ending.
