Lil Mo Says She Turned Down R&B Divas Atlanta Because Of ‘The Type Of Artists They Are’

If you hadn’t noticed, Lil Mo has been making her presence very well known ever since she was added to the cast of “R&B Divas LA.” First she got back on our radars after talking ish about Keyshia Cole, then talking more ish about Keyshia Cole , then making t-shirts about her comments about Keyshia Cole. Now it appears she’s throwing just a bit of slight shade toward some of the members of her “R&B Divas” franchise.

In an interview with Sister 2 Sister, Lil Mo talked about how she came to be a member of the “R&B Divas LA” cast and said that she was initially offered the opportunity to join the Atlanta franchise but turned it down.

“I got a call asking if I was I interested [in 'R&B Divas Atlanta'] and I really wanted to know who the cast was going to be – I mean Atlanta was cool but the type of artists they are, it just didn’t seem like a fit,” admitted Lil Mo. “I’m more hip-hop and R&B and that ATL scene just was a different vibe. Faith Evans was the most mainstream artist on there. So I wasn’t sure about joining the Atlanta one, but when the LA opportunity came around, I was like, ‘Yeah, this is more my style.’

“The cast [of 'R&B Divas LA'] includes Kelly Price, Chante Moore, Dawn Robinson, Claudette Ortiz and Michel’le,” said Lil Mo. “I know a couple of people might make you say, ‘Damn. I didn’t even know they were still alive, but dammit when I saw the roster I was like, ‘Oh, wow.’ I’m happy to be in the company of some great singers.”

So did Lil Mo not want to be around her peers? From what I’ve seen of her career and attitude so far, she seems like she would be right at home with the ladies in Atlanta. Faith and Monifah definitely fall in the hip-hop and R&B category, as does Latocha Scott of Xscape who just joined the cast this year. In LA, the singers lean much more toward real R&B, with a lot of the women trying to even become more mainstream R&B pop-ish, but it didn’t work out. Maybe there were some personality differences that also underlined Lil Mo’s decision — or she realized she wouldn’t stand out as much in Altanta because it seems she’s clearly going to be the most vocal LA cast member.

Either way, Lil Mo says her purpose for doing the show is to signify her re-entry into the business.

“I thought that coming back with TV would be the best way to introduce me as an artist and with music,” said Lil Mo. “I have a lot of things coming up – new album, new TV show, just a whole new life. It’s like I have been born again and the only one who could orchestrate this rebirth this way is God.”

  • Wow

I can’t even recall who lil Mo is, Does she sing or rap?? Can she even been choosy about which ratchet reality show she gets a check from?

Honestly though, someone needs to slap the s h i t out of whomever started these “black women please do your best to embarrass yourself on TV” reality shows.

I use to rock with Lil Mo until she started being messy for attention. Cut it out sis. You’re too old for that kind of foolishness and it’s corny…and, more importantly, it’s obvious.

    This woman cracks me up…..smdh……

Heh. You know what? She’s right with the idea that she wouldn’t fit in well with the Atlanta cast. Only because until the LA cast was announced and she started throwing shade at Keyshia, I didn’t know that she was still alive either. I definitely had her (well, her career at least) in the ground being kept warm by dirt.

Momo…your little features with fab does not make you someone we would like to watch on t.v. Know your place in this R&B game now because the shade you throw at keyshia cole, she can still come in at top 3 on the charts if she release an album. We cnt say the same for you boo

  • Ms. Fox

She still going to be overshadowed! Dawn of mega girl group and Kelly Price who collab with everyone from Mariah , Elton John, Whitney and a ton of rappers. The LA cast still makes you a small.fry!

  • brwngirl

I’m usually with Lil’ Mo, but on this one… Mo BYE!!!

Keke, Sylena Johnson Faith Evans Angie Stone Latocha Scott… That’s not soulful!?! They all have amazzzzzzing voices, with personality! – it seems as if she KNEW she would be overshadowed with the ATL cast and wanted to be the STAR and took her talents to LA.

Let’s be honest the only one who can SANG (in my most southern voice) in the LA cast besides Mo is Kelly Price (zzzzzzz)

Dayum, hammer, meet nail! You bulls eyed that one!

  • Donna

    Who is Lil Mo????

  • Ms. Kameria

I don’t really see the difference between the L.A cast, and the Atlanta cast. Not everyone in the L.A cast is technically from L.A, and not everyone in the Atlanta cast is technically from Atlanta.

Maybe it’s more so because I’ve only seen a couple of episodes from each season.

  • MonicaT

Yes stop being so messy just to be heard! She had such a short singing career it was very easy to forget her! Chante Moore is the more successful and mainstream of the LA bunch and the girl can sang!!!!! #TEAMCHANTEMOORE

    • mlw1924

singing”chante’s got a man at home”

  • Na Na

Sounds more to me like she wouldn’t be “the star” in Atlanta because none of the LA artists sing the same type of music she does so that line of rationale is not the truth.

“…. the only one who could orchestrate this rebirth this way is God.”

God ISN’T messy, so I doubt He gave you a 2nd chance so you could trash-talk your way back into the game following a less-than-stellar career.

    Bird, bye smh

Welp! In the words of Lenethia Leakes “BOOP”!
