Randy Jackson Announces Departure From ‘American Idol,’ Fox Expected To Give Other Judges Pink Slips, Too
There has been a lot of speculating being done regarding the fate of American Idol and its revolving door of judges. It doesn’t help that the singing competition’s viewership has dropped 25% since last season, which is an all time low for the show’s 12-season run. Not to mention the constant bickering going on between judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj. To top it all off, we’ve learned that Idol’s only original judge, Randy Jackson will be saying farewell after the current season concludes.
“Yo! Yo! Yo! To put all of the speculation to the rest, after 12 years of judging on ‘American Idol’ I have decided it is time to leave after this season,” Randy said in a statement to E! News.
“I am very proud of how we forever changed television and the music industry. It’s been a life changing opportunity but I am looking forward to focusing on my company Dream Merchant 21 and other business ventures,” he continued.
Randy may very well be seeking to focus on his company, but word on the street is that he simply beat Fox executives to the punch because they have plans of firing all four judges anyway! Well, at least that’s what a Fox insider told E! News.
“Yes, we want to do a whole new panel—but, just like last time around, it depends on who we get,” the source revealed.
“[The will] definitely [be] no Mariah [next season that's] absolutely certain.”
“For now, it is back to the drawing board and a new panel for next season.”
The insider also said that if X Factor was ever canceled, they’d try to bring back original Idol judges Simon, Randy and Paula.
If that’s not enough shaking up for you, according to The Wrap, Fox is kicking American Idol’s longtime executive producer, Nigel Lythgoe to the curb as well!
Will you be sad to see them go?
