Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry have been hinting for for months that they’ve been working on something big. Now we finally we get to see two of the top secret projects that they’ve been working so hard on! So in case you haven’t heard it through the grapevine yet, Tyler has been in the process of producing two new scripted series for OWN.

The first series, which is titled The Haves and the Have Nots seems have a soap opera-ish type feel to it. It also appears to be loosely based on Tyler’s 2011 stage play that bore the same title, with a few elements from his 2008 film, The Family That Preys sprinkled in . Starring in the television drama is Tika Sumpter, Crystal Fox, Renée Lawless, John Schneider, and a host of other talented actors and actresses. A brief description of the tele-drama found on the network’s website reads:

“Set in Savannah, Georgia, Jim and Katheryn Cryer, a wealthy couple, become intimately involved with the families of their hired help, creating a web of controversy as the worlds of “The Haves” and “The Have Nots” collide.”

Perry switched gears a bit with the second series, taking a more comedic approach. Love Thy Neighbor seems to follow the formula that we are used to seeing when it comes Tyler’s scripted series. OWN describes the show as “a wonderfully fresh show about a middle class family, and their daily joys, struggles, triumphs and fumbles.”

The Haves and the Have Nots is scheduled to premiere May 28th at 9/8c and Love Thy Neighbor is set to premiere May 29th at 9/8c.

I’m a fan of his work, but I hope that the acting will be better than House of Payne and Meet The Browns!!

The one about the rich people doesn’t look too bad, but did they have to give the maid that horrid bowl cut? The comedy show just looks stupid w/ that annoying granny character.
So if I had to choose I’d watch the drama about the rich family. I hope OWN can get it together because I love Oprah

this look like a rip off of Scandal….Tyler please stop

Scandal and Deception, but I will tune in to see if it has that finesse.

This is not a rip off of Scandal or Deception. Why would anyone say that? Because the lead Black actress is in a relationship with a white man? Scandal is about a Black woman who is a D.C fixer who also happens to have a lot of money. She fell in love with a married white man. Deception is about a cop going back home to see who murdered her childhood friend and gets back with her childhood sweetheart. There is nothing similar between any of these three shows except the white man and Black girl romance

  • Shay n Scrappy 4 ever! Lmao

FTP looks like its gonna be the black version of Dallas… The movie wasn’t bad so I’ll watch. As long as it isn’t cheesy like HOP or MTB…

In general, I like Tyler Perry movies. They are entertaining, but I did not like his tv series at all. But Yay, for supporting black folks!
