Now, I asked this question a couple of weeks ago when KEvin Hart was arrested but I must ask again: Why don’t celebrities get drivers?
Jeffrey Wright is the latest celebrity to be arrested for driving while intoxicated. According to TMZ, the critically acclaimed and fan favorite actor was driving in New York City early Saturday morning when he was stopped by the police. The reason he was stopped has yet to be released but according to the report, police smelled alcohol on his person.
Of course, he was asked to step out of the car and when he failed the field sobriety test, he was placed under arrested and charged with DWI.
Now, Wright is not a native New Yorker but he has been living here for something close to 25 years; why was he driving when he knew he’d probably had too much to drink. Unlike some other states, New York City has public transportation running 24 hours and there are taxi cabs everywhere (although they don’t love picking up black men). He clearly wasn’t thinking because logic had jumped out the window somewhere along the way.
It may sound a little “goody goody” but people have to really be smart about drinking and driving. People really can get seriously hurt when someone who is drunk is behind the wheel.
Hopefully, Wright will take this as a lesson and learn from it. We need him to be clear and present for all his future television and movie roles, including his new part in Boardwalk Empire.
