Eddie Murphy is reportedly getting his Daddy Day Care on in real life.
The 57-year-old actor and comedian is stepping up to care for his 11-year-old daughter, Angel, with whom he shares with former girlfriend, singer and TV personality Mel B, or Melanie Brown. According to Us Weekly, multiple sources confirmed that Angel is staying with her dad in Los Angeles as her mom recovers from the emergency surgery she recently had. Mel allegedly fell down the stairs, and as a result, ended up breaking two ribs and reportedly nearly severed her wrist in the fall.
While the 43-year-old heals, her daughter is getting to spend quality time with her famous father.
“Angel is very well cared for,” a source told Us, claiming they’ve been bonding more and more over the last few months. “Eddie and Angel have been spending a lot of time together in recent months.”
The reason this news is so special is because, if you’ll recall, Murphy didn’t have much of a relationship with Angel for some time after splitting from Brown, whom he dated in 2006. After their breakup, when she was pregnant, he publicly stated at the premiere of Dreamgirls, that a paternity test would be required before he could claim the child as his.
“I don’t know whose child that is until it comes out and has a blood test,” he told a Dutch reporter who asked him about Brown’s pregnancy. “You shouldn’t jump to conclusions, sir”
But he would eventually be proven as the father. Over the years, he didn’t see much of Angel, but in a recent interview to promote her new memoir, Brutally Honest, Brown said father and daughter have been spending more time together than ever before.
“Angel did see her dad over the 10 years, but not as much as I would have wanted, but I didn’t know what was going on so that was one of … the good things that come out of this [her split from ex-husband, Stephen Belafonte],” she told Entertainment Tonight. “The last two years, Angel goes there every other week — whenever she wants, holidays, whenever — and they have a very good, strong relationship and I’m so happy about that.”
Angel is also getting to see her baby brother. Murphy just welcomed his 10th child, son Max Charles Murphy, with fiancée Paige Butcher on November 30. Aside from Angel, Brown has two other daughters.
