“I don’t care if Rick Ross is 40 years old — he’s a misguided 40-year-old person.”

Strong words from Talib Kweli Monday as he addressed the recent controversy over Rick Ross’ rap verse on the song U.O.E.N.O., in a HuffPost Live segment hosted by Marc Lamont Hill.

While Ross seems to have chalked the controversy surrounding his lyrics up to some unspecified “misunderstanding,” many are not buying his explanation.

“Rick Ross condoned rape in that song … and he should apologize, and his apology that he offered was unacceptable.” Kweli continued.

mhm ya but the fact that that lyric even popped in his mind is a phuckin problem. Period. Like why is the idea of raping a women even crossing your mind? He has issues.

I don’ t think Rick was sincere in his so called apology. The best way to try to stop it is by not buying any of his record and support him in shows. I know sadly people don’t want to do it but that is what it takes.

Speak on it, Kweli! Professor Greene didn’t raise any fools!

What I really don’t understand is the sudden outrage at Rick Ross for his deplorable lyrics. Really, what did people expect? Is this not the same man who has been spewing nuclear waste into people’s eardrums for years? Is this not the same man profits from lyrics glorifying selling drugs to children and murdering black people? So now, somehow we think that glorifying rape should be beneath him. Honestly, people can miss me with this faux outrage. Rick Ross has been spewing filth and poison for years and the public has made him platinum for it.

I have NEVER listened to rap music, and sometimes get a side eye from people when I say so. I try to watch BET here and there just to see what my peeps are up to, but there is not much to see ( BET won’t even play certain artists). I keep my Pandora station stuck on the 60s and 70s, even though most of the artists were before my time. So, I just can’t deal with all these lyrics. I want a man to tell me I’m his first, last, and everything ( Barry White), not how he can ” beat it up right! ” Huh? I’ll be ready to fight with some language like that.

  • There is no misunderstanding regarding “Put molly all in her drink and had my way, she ain’t even know it” or whatever the lyrics were, it was totally unacceptable, and I wouldn’t even call his “explanation” an apology! He was DEAD wrong! At this point, I don’t care if we ever hear from him again, but sadly, some folks just don’t care and are still going to knock that song like there’s no tomorrow. And sadly enough, there are folks out here who still like him and swear he can do no wrong!
