After spending the past few weeks beating back rumors that Elisabeth Hasselbeck is on her way out of The ViewThe New York Times has sources saying that it’s Barbara Walters herself who will be leaving the show, retiring May 2014.

The 83-year-old Walters, who has been in media for 50 years, has suffered from a concussion and the chicken pox this year, so her health has been an issue. She also underwent heart surgery in 2010.

Throughout her career, she blazed a trail for women in media, becoming the first prominent female face on programs like Today and 20/20. At one point she was even the highest-paid journalist on television, according to TVNewser.

While it’s still unconfirmed whether Hasselbeck is leaving the show, we know for sure that Joy Behar is. Now there might be three seats to fill on the show.
