Vanessa Simmons Snags The Leading Role In New Film, ‘My First Loves’
If you were a fan of MTV’s reality show Run’s House back in the day, you know that Rev Run’s oldest daughter Vanessa Simmons had dreams of making it big as a Hollywood star. It’s great to see that she’s on the path to making those dreams come true. The 29-year-old entrepreneur has just been cast as the leading lady in upcoming film, My First Loves, reports All Hip Hop.
The Brooklyn-based comedy is written and directed by Dominga Martin. According to the NY Times, My First Loves will follow the life of a young woman by the name of Starla (Simmons), who is getting ready for marriage, but has to handle unfinished business with her ex-boyfriends first.
“It’s a film I think that I was inspired to write because we need to see more love in our movies. We need to celebrate love and just really enjoy ourselves at the theater and not feel like we have to walk away crying all the time. And so that’s what inspired me to write the film,” Martin told the Times of her latest project.
Simmons recently gushed to All Hip Hop regarding her excitement about being a part of the film.
“I’m very excited, I’ve definitely had a chance through these couple of years to experiment and do some indies and some TV work and I’m excited that I was cast to be the lead in this role. I think that it definitely is broadening my horizons and I think it has taken me out of my comfort zone, but I’m excited to tell this story.”
“It [the film] gets real honest from a female’s point of view. Its just real honest, I’m just excited to be working with Dominga, and not only did she write it but she also is directing it as well.”
Vanessa went on to reveal that she believes many women will be able to relate to Starla.
“I think that Starla is just really relatable, she is a hard working, young lady, who I feel like is looking for love. It sounds sort of chick-flickish, but that’s our story aside from our contributions back to the world, I think we are here to find love and to share that with somebody else, and I think that her story is very relatable to other people in what we go through as women in finding that one person we can share our life with.”
My First Loves is slated to begin filming this summer.
