Unfortunately, we have some very sad news to report on this afternoon. We’ve just learned that Ahmad “Real” Givens, mostly known for his role on VH1 reality show I Love New York, which eventually resulted in spin-off show, Real Chance of Love, which he starred in alongside his brother Chance, has been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer.

A representative for Real told TMZ that the 33-year-old former reality star first began feeling ill back in January, which he thought was a simple case of the flu. After going back and forth to the hospital four times, doctors told him there was something wrong with his liver. Last week he learned that colon cancer is actually what has been causing him to feel under the weather. Real will remain hospitalized until doctors determine what sort of treatment they should administer. A rep says doctors will more than likely reach a decision today.

Ray J confirmed the news a few days ago via his Twitter page while requesting prayers for his friend.

Tiffany Pollard aka New York also sent her well wishes.

Since Real Chance of Love ended, Ahmad has continued rapping with his brothers in hip hop group, The Stallionaires. He also launched a hair care line called Real Silk, which includes a variety of hair care products and equipment.

In addition to prayers, Ahmad’s family is asking for monetary donations to assist with his medical bills. Donations can be made payable to account “Cancer Funds for Real,”  Chase bank acct# 407662563.

Our prayers go out to the Givens family.

Black men please go to the doctor!!!! I hope everything goes right for Real but a part of me is thinking instead of trying out for a reality show, he should have been making doctor appointments. I hope the money from his hair care line helps with his bills.

One does one even have to do with the other?

      • bigdede

He was thinking about fame instead of his health. He is too young for this to happen to him. Years ago they could have caught it in time before it got to stage 4. So if he would have been going to the doctor instead of trying to get on tv shows to get famous, he would be doing better. In other words, make your health more important.

        • Kahekili

How do you know what he was thinking about?
How do you know that he didn’t go to the doctor’s, but wasn’t diagnosed?
How do you know anything about what could have been in HIS life?

          • bigdede

            I don’t and never said I did!

            • Kahekili

              Yes, you did.

You said, “He was thinking about fame instead of his health.”

You also said, “So if he would have been going to the doctor instead of trying to get on tv shows to get famous, he would be doing better.”

              • bigdede

I don’t know what he was thinking about. I was guessing that was what he was thinking about. I’m just going by what I read. If he went to the doctor 4 times and each time they said it was the flu, he needs to sue. All a doctor has to do is a flu swab and they can tell if he has the flu or not. All they have to do is some basic blood test and a routine ua and they could tell if it was the flu or something more. So I don’t know anything about his life but it just seems odd to me that the doctor’s didn’t do that if he went to the doctor 4 times.

Real actually went to the doctor four times prior to this diagnosis and the doctors told him, it was just a flu. The sad thing about this situation is that they doctors didn’t think to do a colonoscopy because of his age. Real is very young. He was misdiagnosed and when they finally caught it, too late, stage 4.

          • bigdede

So they never did a CBC on him or any blood test? They never did a flu swab? A flu swab could let the doctor know he didn’t have the flu so the other 3 times he went to the doctor they could have ran more test.

            • kierah

Not everybody gets thorough care. If doctors aren’t looking for it, they won’t always find it. Doctors aren’t perfect. They miss things, things fall through the cracks.

I can’t believe you are blaming him for having stage 4 cancer. Cancer can progress very quickly. We are all walking around with cancer cells in our bodies. You don’t know what will be the trigger to metastasize.

he has a STRONG support system what with family and friends/followers around the world. be strong, guys.

  • Nette

Very strange for someone so young. Normally thats why they require testing after 50 but 33? Wow. I wish him the best for his treatment and recovery.

Praying for your full recovery. Keep your head up because God is looking down on you.
